Please solve my bike has a very similar problem!!

Hey,

I have a very similar problem. Just did a carb rebuild and didn't fix it. Mine isn't to bad and bike runs fine in higher rpm.

Mine also got worse! I think it turned out that my fuel tank diaphragm dried out and stuck together, as pulled it apart, unstuck it and it works. Problem is that that tank valve never really worked. Could I grab an expert opinion on this:

on my bike:

When the screw is horizontal (pointing to "ON") and there are no hoses, fuel exits the large port on the valve.

When the screw is pointed down (pointing to "PRI") and there are no hoses, fuel exits the valve. Can't remember which port(s).

I leave my bike on "ON" as this seems logical due to its name. I read above that this valve could cause problems, is that the case?

Cheers

Just case any of you didn't know this but the pointing to "PRI" is actually also the fuel reserve it the short tube so you see it serves two purposes

When I pulled out the main jet I didn't notice any collars. Is that possible? Or are they missing?

You should see it sticky out looking down the venturi in the carburetor sometimes they do fall out with you see it and sometimes they just stick in the bore so you have to push them the rest of the way down to come out so look down the bore.
Or there just missing

That interesting the Fuel Petcock doesn't have the brass main tube looks like it's capped off but all the ones I saw on eBay show it with the tube.

They're not stock petcocks for 2008-2012 Ninja 250s, whether they say they are or not.

Petcock for 2008-12 Ninja 250R is Kawasaki # 51023-0032 . Don't buy any aftermarket items. They won't fit and won't last.

For pre-gen '88-07 Ninja 250, Kawasaki part# is 51023-1393.
I have yet to see any aftermarket petcock that'll fit. Note ALL aftermarket ones are too short.

When you try to install, the lever ends up underneath tank and won't let petcock sit flush with bottom of tank. No way to install and seal.

If yours is leaking, best to get K&L rebuilt kit # 18-2702 and repair it.

I know that many of aftermarket ones are too short unless you buy $65 which are right one that are the extended body as I all ready talk to many of ebay seller.
Personally I would prefer the one with the built in fuel screen trap

Yup just got the K&L rebuilt kit # 18-2702 to rebuild one of better petcock for 05 as originally 07 tank two bikes I purchased reallty cheap was too far gone badly pitted so I had used the parts from 05 tank for now and petcock for now at least the originally 07 gas tank is still salvageable so with some Evapo-Rust and tank sealer it be good go to again with new or replacement petcock if and when I get to it next year.

I've done all prep work possible while awaiting delivery of correct needle jets.
Just a tweak to 1 side to set fuel level, wet testing revealed no leaks, external or internal. Perfect slide action. These should run perfectly when complete. Brass tuning components restored as new (though missing from pics) as I await delivery to complete reassembly.

@Detrailers....your carbs in the hands of USPS as of 30 minutes ago.

Note difference in needle jet heights between these 2 pics. The additional 40-50% created an obvious problem.

You may want to revert back to 98 mains, dunno, your call.

With factory-fresh clean carbs, high-end WOT mixtures will be way too rich in 10.0:1 AFR range. Can pick up +5-7% more HP by leaning out mixtures with 96 main jets. Racers use 94-95 mains along with full-exhaust, snorkel delete and leaner needles. All dyno proven.

No one who's advocated bigger jets has ever provided before & after dyno charts of any gains.

You asked what passage ways are the ones that like to clog up earlier ?
I believe ( not positive) that under the emulsifier tube ,the thing that holds the main jet is a passageway off at a shallow angle. I have heard that that passage way gets plugged often ... it's one of those that make a 90 degree turn and is a bear to get clean....
an ultrasonic cleaner is not the complete answer to cleaning a carb. at best they clean the outsides nicely but for passageways you must rely on the small carb cleaning brushes or wire.
....when gas sits in a carb for a long time anything that is below the top level of the gasoline has a tendancy to get a crust on it this crust flakes off some times turns sideways and plugs the small diameter passageways then more junk follows and soon the passageway is completely plugged and nothing can get through.... and this can happen on a air passage way or a fuel passage way
all from the same cause old gas... and lets face it every bike has had old gas in it !
....
the passageways on my 1977 Triumph's Amal 930 carbs are HUGE in comparison to the 2012 Ninja 250R's passageways but they still plug up
which means the Ninja's carbs are really easy to plug up !
.... when I got my ninja it wouldn't run on both cylinders the main jet was completely plugged as well s the pilot circuit ( not the pilot jet the passage way to it !) after 3 times trying to clean it I was finally successful... well partly.... it could use more love and attention but I wanted to ride it !
physically poke a strong wire ( small spring un wound works great ) in every passage as far as you can get it and make darn sure the carb cleaner comes out all the holes it's supposed to.... without that your shooting in the dark.
....
Bob.

@Detrailers reports to me the subject 250 now "running perfect" via email, though I'm not sure whether he made changes to main jets. He's invited to clarify in order to close out the thread here.
