Ah, Peace and Quiet... at LAST!!!
lol...
makes you wish for year round schooling. taken from PC Mech Summer's Over [RANT] by Rich Menga Although you may not have noticed it, the Internet gets very rude during June, July and August. The reason? Kids on Summer Vacation. Many are at home, bored and have nothing to do so they do a lot of things online. They game, they chat and of course they annoy the living crap out of just about everyone they interact with. Several Septembers ago I noticed that as soon as the kids went back to school, the Internet became a much nicer, calmer place. I said to myself, "Nah. I refuse to believe that the kids going back to school has anything to do with the overall attitude of the Internet." But every September after that, I noticed the same thing. June would come, the kids were home and all of a sudden the Internet turned into Dodge City. September came, and all was quiet again. It wasn't a coincidence. Kids online truly do have that much of an impact concerning the attitude of the general Internet populous. You might be saying, "But I don't interact with kids online at all." You probably did and weren't aware of it. During the Summer months it's absolutely uncanny how many belligerent/rude comments you'll see on blogs, forums, social networks and the like. It happens every year starting in June like clockwork. I'm not saying all kids are bad, however the fact that everything goes quiet every September is not something I can simply sweep under the rug and ignore. When the kids are in school, the adults (especially those of use without children) can relax and use the Internet more freely compared to just a scant few weeks before. Summer's over and the kids are back in school. Enjoy the peace. |

You are so right...I was wondering why this forum seemed to turn into sportbikes.net overnight...question answered! Now if I can just figure out why people who drive cars 99% of the time refer to other drivers as "cagers" when relating an incident that happened on their motorcycle.

Best part of the kids going back to school is that I can still take off a Wednesday and hit the amusment parks. Now with no lines for all the rides.

I can definitely see that being true. Plus I'm sure parents on the net are stressed from their kids so they are more rude than usual as well.

I don't use it in a derogatory sense. When I'm in my car, I feel like I'm in a cage, therefore, I am a cager. :-)

Next door neighbor took the roof off his jeep today and told me its just like a motorcycle now. Guess he meant the wind factor. No sense in my responding to that. I guess using that logic if I put on some Lee jeans and a Vikings shirt and throw a football I am just like Brett Favre.

LOL I never use cager. That's like...calling pedestrians "leggers" or something.
*light bulb goes off* "Get out of my way you goddamn leggers!" I like it...I'm using it. |

I love the summertime, but that is only because I'm at a university. It is amazing when school is out, it's so quiet, easier to park, just overall nicer.
At least that explains why during the summer internet forums seem to blow up. |

Definitely a true statement kkim.
I am a big fan of cars and motorcycles but I don't care if you call me a cager or a biker, driver or rider, they are just things some people say and some don't.

I call 'em cage, for I too feel like I'm stuffed in a box, wrapped up tight and imprisoned when in a car.... Plus, people who drive cars most of the time, especially the honda civic/toyota corolla hum-drum work to home to work types who have never been on a bike and have no idea what it feels like just think inside the box.... generally... well... I'd like to think so anyways..... How's that for a run-on sentence.... :P
And concerning the OP, I don't like kids. I was a helian, so was my bro, and my parents always taught that they were helians until they became 25 or post-student... Thus, if I be a parent, that's 25 years of ultimate torture I'm setting myself up for. No thx, and following that logic, that must mean everybody else's kid is also a helian, and I don't want to deal with that either. Suffice it to say, I like back-to-school now almost as much as I disliked it back when I was in school....

If they drive a boxy car does that make them a boxer? I drive an SUV so am I a utilitarian?

I'm not sure I subscribe to the whole "feeling like I'm in a cage" feeling.
I sure feel a whole lot "freer" in my SUV where I drink my coffee, have a conversation, pick my nose, play with my girls....um...hair. Hell, I can even control the climate. I feel pretty trapped/isolated with my head squeezed into my full-faced helmet with ear-plugs. It's like shoving your head up someone's @$$ (not speaking from experience, here) while they whistle dixie. I'm just saying.

In the helmet I have can only really see the bottom lip of the visor opening, and even that only take a few percent off the bottom of my view. My peripheral view is unobstructed. The bike itself takes up little of my physical perception. |
