Hurricane Party
The East Coast could possibly get hit this week with a Hurricane. I'm headed to RI before I take off to Cali. so I'm really keeping a eye on this one.
I just checked and started the generator. No problem keeping the refridgerator running and beer cold (should we lose power).

Be sure and evacuate if it looks like it is going to be a bad one. If you wait until the last minute you will have to deal with the traffic jams. Also be sure to have a full tank of gas.

Yeah, I planned on going to the Delaware beaches this weekend too. This could be a big problem if it hits and people still goto the beaches this weekend. Hopefully it will veer off to the east...

wish you the best during this. from my experience dealing w/ hurricane aftermaths, water (both potable and non potable) and refrigeration were the 2 most important items to have... everything else becomes secondary. hope Earl decides to meander off instead of taking a turn westward. |

I am so glad that Ariel is out of the water. The current track looks like it could get really dicey here Friday or Saturday. N.B. looks like it will suffer a similar fate. The ocean has been really warm this summer. I actually went swimming. The gen-set checks out fine.

Most of the hurricanes I went through....the biggest thing was some freakin Air Conditioning.
Food/Water was pretty easy. They were passing out MRE's, Ice and bottled water for weeks afterwards. |

The worst thing for me going through a hurricane is loosing power foe as much as a week at a time. Makes you really appreciate what ya got.

In 86 when AMA outlawed works bikes I was at the Florida Winter AMA. He started his RM250 and wheelied through the pits (pit speed limit was 5mph IIRC). That "production" 250 sounded crisp like no other 250. But Jeff Stanton took Florida "by storm" that year. |

I hope dispatch doesn't call me to do a run to Maine for Friday. I might be stuck there for a few days or get a rough ride home.

Same here. The MREs were usually pretty good. I used to rather enjoy hurricanes when I was younger. No distractions for reading, the wind was fun with a tarp and if there was flooding I brought out my skimboard. I don't recall ever being scared during a hurricane, even though we never evacuated for any of them.

Tied everything down that could move last night then took a ride to the beach at 9pm. It was crowded, but not big waves, just more waves.

I decided not to go to RI and now it seems they won't be getting anything but rain. That's OK I hate the rain. 8 to 10 foot waves here are pretty impressive.

Looks like just rain. I don't think Charlestown will be bad. The Cape is getting the brunt of it.

Looks like we are just going to get a bad Nor'Easter. It should be nice Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, I plan to go to the classic motorcycle meet in Owl's Head (Rockland, ME) and drool over some Vincents, Ariel Square Fours, and vintage Ducatis and BMWs.

Hey after Katrina, and up here the spring floods overboard is understandable. While we might never see tragedy like Katrina up here (no levies to break, and towns above sea level) better safe than sorry.

Actually I do remember a story they told me recently that they had a guy come to the area with a deed in hand that he was left in a will. He was asking for a property that was a number after my family's cottage. My grandparents said that their cottage was last on the road. The guy was confused and had a land surveyor come out and it turns out that the property he had a deed for was in the middle of the ocean, that at one point the ocean used to be further away and a large storm came and shortened the beach. |

this jerk risked others lives:
Overmatched surfers keep R.I. lifeguards busy 11:01 PM Fri, Sep 03, 2010 | Permalink Peter Lord Email NARRAGANSETT -- Trying to protect people from towering waves, lifeguards blew their whistles at everyone who so much as set foot on the town beach. So one middle-aged man, cradling a surfboard, avoided them by climbing down some rocks near The Towers and flung himself into the ocean. He was in trouble within minutes. The waves knocked him off the board. And it appeared he wasn't strong enough to swim ashore through a rip current at the south end of the beach. Six lifeguards ran down the beach. Two jumped into the surf. The others paid out a yellow line and then pulled the surfer and the two lifeguards ashore. Onlookers applauded. One lifeguard crossed his arms, indicating an injury. Soon the group was joined by a fire truck, an ambulance and several policemen. The surfer declined medical treatment. He told the police that if he were 17, he would have been fine. But he was much older, and he was worn out. |
