Triathlon this Sunday (Updated with results)

I'm excited. I went swimming today and I think I finally found a good pace to swim at. Nowhere near what I used to do, but respectable.

Tomorrow I get to clean up the bicycle, check the tires (see if they need to be replaced), lube the cables and gather all my stuff.

Saturday I pick up my packet and Sunday is race day.

I'm pumped for this.

Good Luck The MC I'm in works the cycling part of local triathlons as draft busters and I have a lot of respect for folks who compete.

Thanks everyone.

Alex, yeah I was planning on starting to incorporate more kicks towards the end of the swim to start to get the blood flowing.

Now I just need to make sure I have EVERYTHING for this weekend. I do need to go grab some energy chews, some gatorade, etc. I need to make a list...or else I'll forget something.

Hope my right foot holds up for the run. hahaha It still isn't fully healed.

Mark, You might want to slather on some Aspercreme and wear one of those elastic ankle braces for the run. You won't need it for the swim or the bike ride.

Nah, it isn't an ankle problem, so a brace won't do anything. If it hurts, I'll just walk fast.

Would you consider wearing a GoPro camera for our viewing pleasure?

You'd be surprised how many people do this who aren't skinny. All of the pros are, but several age-groupers aren't.

Been home for a while...just relaxing.

So I went out there and busted hump to finish in 1:38:XX. I placed 32nd in my age group and 235 overall. There was at least 600 people there...most likely more. It was a blast. I was in the middle group the entire time.

You'd need a lot of that muscle to complete an ironman. A good amount of those guys are pretty cut.

Congratulations on finishing the race. Just finishing is an accomplishment as most people including myself couldn't make it to the finish.

There was this young girl, maybe 16 or so, and she was the turtle (last person of the race). She was determined to finish it. I was waiting to pick up my bike so I could leave. She showed up, and we clapped and cheered her on. She was pushing hard, but still managed a smile. You can finish it if you really want to!

Thanks for the congrats!

Kudos to that 16 year old, too. Takes guts to do this stuff.

Splendid finish! Congratulations. You don't have to be skinny to compete. I do Time Trials and weigh 200lbs.

Just do a sprint like I did...you don't have to lose a lot of muscle, if any. The muscle can help tremendously in a sprint too.

Official results are out, I misread my line apparently:

AgeGP - Ovrall - Name - Rnk - Swim -- Rnk - _T1__ - Rate
__32__- 295 - _Apex_ - 29 - 11:29.6 -- 31 - 2:23.3 - 403

Rnk - Bike - _Pace_ -- Rnk - _T2_ -- Rnk - _Run_ - Pace -- _Back_ - Total
32 - 52:56.0 - 18.1 -- 37 - 1:54.5 -- 39 - 29:12.4 - 9:44 -- 24:28.2 - 1:37:55.9

There were 493 in attendance, so placing 295 isn't that bad.

Now remember I ran maybe 5 times before the race and I swam once. So considering that, I did very well.
