Flickering headlight and stuck blinkers
Got back to riding my 250 after about two weeks and noticed a couple problems.
First problem is when i turn, put my blinker on and it stayed on, no blinking. If i cancel my blinker and put it back on it sometimes it will blink. the problem comes and goes. sometimes it will get stuck on at idle but when i rev it to 6k it starts to blink again. thought it would be my koso gauge causing this problem, so i installed my stock gauge cluster. nope problem still is there. Next problem in my headlight flickers at idle and low rpm. I'll be sitting in my garage and can watch the headlight flicker. go out riding and it flickers below 6k or so, but in the upper rpm range it clicks and go back to normal. swap high beam bulb with the low beam, nothing. Havent check the stator output yet, but i really hope it not that. any suggestion or help would be great. |

Just a couple ideas:
Check for corrosion on the wiring/connectors on the headlights. Check the turn signal relay and all of the turn signal bulbs.

The headlight flicker sounds like you have another accessory (aftermarket?) drawing excessive amps. The alternator reaches max power at 6K RPMs. Coincidentally, that is when your flicker stops. So, what could it be?
The turn signals are another problem..most likely a loose or bad connection on the side that is the problem. Make believe it is your left side and turn on the signal. If the front left bulb lights and the rear left doesn't, you have a loose connection in the left rear wiring. If the rear lights and the front doesn't, then the problem is in the front. By not blinking, the turn signal lets you know that either a bulb is burnt out or there is a wiring problem. |

Could also be something that continues to draw power while the bike is not running and possibly drains the battery.

Got around to fixing tonight. it was really bad riding tonight, so pull the fairings. checked all the wiring, no loose or frayed wire. remove the whole koso gauge harness, plugged in my stock gauge again. most the problems went away. blinker now blinks with key on bike off. headlight dont flicker, or barely enough to notice. im kinda bummed, i really like the koso gauge.

A good friend, who is a MC mechanic, says that 90% of electrical problems eventually are traced to a poor ground. He also suggested that you look at what you worked on last.

Not to pick nits here, but is your profile pic a picture of your bike? If so I'm pretty sure it's an '07 or earlier model, due to the left-hand exhaust and the single-piece seat, amongst other things. Might wanna check on that, there's a bunch of differences.

Have you tried switching the relay up for a new one? you can get one for around $10 from your local auto store.

tested the alternator today. output is good but too high. putting out about 60v when it should only be doing around 40v. regulator/rectifier is damaged.
