You might be a winter rider if....

I snagged some of these from other sites, and included my own:

...You have more riding gear than cubicle space.
...It takes longer to gear-up and gear-down than it takes to ride to work.
...You hold your breath at Red lights so your visor doesn't fog up.
...You've ever thought that a Ural might be worthwhile.
...You've ever left the snow on the seat: because with all the layers you're wearing... it just didn't matter.
... if you dream of a Aerostitch Roadcrafter suit.
... if the thought of coveralls excites you.
... if you've tried to figure out how to build your own snow chains.
... If you own a leather jacket that's a size or two too big, but fits perfectly with the right layers under it...
... If you've ever ridden with your visor half up so you can see through the snow
... If you hang off the bike more between November and March than you do between May & August because you really know the true meaning of "cold tires."
... If the phrase "black ice" immediately makes you shudder and think of riding
... If you've ever farted at highway speeds just to keep warm
... Pulled over to "de-ice"
... Are the only rider on the road in your county/state/country
... Wear cramp-ons so you don't fall over at lights
... Rack up up more miles from November thru April than most riders do the entire year.
... Have pulled a truck out of a snowbank, on your KLR.
... If you've ever waited longer for your bike to warm up than it took you to get to your destination
... thought about the possibility of rigging up a heated seat
... installed hand guards on an SV to compliment the heated grips
... it's time for the Childrens Hospital Toy run and you shovel a path from the garage to get to the street, and rode along the sidewalk a bit just because it was free of ice.
... You have an Aerostitch catalog right next to your Victoria’s Secret Catalog in the bathroom.
... See ice patches as just another place to do burnouts.
... Dodge Penguins on the way to work.
... Think is fun to watch your breath freeze in mid air and fall like snow.
... If you think a wind chill of -84 "isn't bad"
... If you have had to park your bike on the flat part of the lot so it wouldn't slide out of the parking space
... If you've had a plow driver give you the thumbs up....and then shake their head
... you have in your garage an old tire, a box of screws, and a power screwdriver.
... You've had to do a short burn out to break the ice off your chain.
... You've had to stop the bike by digging your heels into the snow/ice covered road.
... You've blared your horn rolling through an intersection because you couldn't stop.... and those who were stopped flashed their lights at you, honked back, and threw thumbs out into the frigid air.
... 4 inches of clear asphalt is all you need.
... You've passed a tourist skier, at 35mph in a 55, from Texas, with the tail WAY out...
...you've passed a car as it spun off the road and into the ditch.

The Oklahoma version...

I stopped for a picture for a 'welcome to' contest I'm running on another board...

The BA expressway wasn't too bad, other than the BIG FAT snowflakes! The shoulder was 6" deep when I suffered carb. icing and coasted onto it...

The exit ramps and side streets suck...I threw in the towel after 12.5 miles.

When I walked inside, one of the salesmen was bowing with the 'I'm not worthy' bow. Another salesman asked if I'd ever heard of the Darwin awards?

The general manager, Jim, graciously allowed me to park, and leave, my Ninja 250 in the service bay.

I then hitched a ride back home. :lol

The salesmen and service people had a field day giving me a hard time (in jest). We were in stitches laughing about the scenario. Apparently, I was the 2nd cycle to show up Today. The first one arrived on a trailer.

Those winter jokes are funny spooph. We get ice on the roads about once every 5 years. Before you northerners get jealous 'cause we ride all year, just remember summer. It's so hot out I don't ride much from June-mid October. And we all wish we were up north that time of year. Many of us hate summer and can't wait till it's over.

I'm a little scared that I answered yes to quite a few of those

Winter riders smile secret little grins to each other while others shake their heads and wonder why

Rode home in a snowstorm once--47mi. It was definitely not by choice. When I was in college, I had no car, so I rode a BMW R-50 with a sidecar all winter. Two cinder blocks in the sidecar stabilized things. It was in the early 60s and the clothes were not nearly as high tech as today.

Haha, good stuff. Winter riding is pah-retty harsh, especially here in Los Angeles. I had to put the liner back in my jacket and close some of my helmet vents today

Seriously though, I think I'd have to get a snowmobile or something for the off season if I lived somewhere where it snows. Can you put chains on bike tires?

Nice thread, Spooph! I'm getting there, hehe.

A buddy of mine went for a ~2-hour ride yesterday. Here is us stopped in front of a gun shop :P . Notice the ice in the puddle in front of my bike .

I was well-layered and completely covered, and rocking those goofy hand warmers, but there he was with the same gear he was wearing in July, except with the liner in his jacket :P . This was like a perfect day for a picnic to him, since he was originally from Iceland, lived in Alaska for the last several years, and only recently came here. But, now he gets to make fun of me because I would never break a sweat on those July rides, while he would come home half drenched :P .

You might be a winter rider if you shovel a path in your driveway just wide enough for a motorcycle tire.

I'm counting down the days until I can pull the 600 out of the garage and start riding again. Three more months if I'm lucky and we have a early spring. Four months if its a long winter
