Dyno Jet Stage 2 Help. #Jets, Elevation?

Hello everyone... 1st time poster here. A bit about me:
I'm in the Army, currently in Afghanistan. 101st Air Borne. Come home next month! Woooh!

So I have a 2009 250R and my little bro did not start my bike every week while I was deployed. And now the carb is gummed up. Before I came in the Army, I was ASE certified so I know how to turn wrenches. Just never on a bike. I plan on doing everything myself and I figured If I was going to have to do this much work on it, I might as well put a K&N Pod Filter and Stage 2 Dyna Jet on it. I'm also placing a HR-1 slip-on exhaust.

So here is my question:

Can someone show me a link to a thread or tell me what # jets to use for an elevation ranging from 700- 3600 ft elevation? Keep in mind the HR-1 Exhaust can close up a bit for lower elevations (it's adjustable).

I also would like a break down of what to disassemble. Don't know where I can find a service manual PDF file online.

Thanks for you help

I'd start here. It's a long thread but it has lots of good information.

Thanks for your support. Might have to open up that PDF file later in the States. These computers over here suck! Thanks for the file, will use it when I get back.

I noticed you have the mods I'm about to do. Any pointers?

Excellent Thread and info. Thanks. So what about the Idle Screw on the side? How do you reset that? And are most people shaving those side tips off the carbs so the boot fits on there better?

the 25th has been on Oahu for as long as I can remember (which is a lot of years ). They were always a source of pride for the local community when I was growing up in Wahiawa, right outside of Schofield Barracks.

Glad to hear you'll be headed home soon and that an island unit could be there to help you out. Stay safe.

Help on the Idle Screw please....

OK, the idle screw on the side of the bike... I messed with it... a lot. Probably not the best idea and I did it before I realized my carbs where junked up. So, when I'm tearing everything down to clean the carbs and floats, how to I reset the idle screw to factory specs?

Would it be easier to set the idle to 2kish, ride around a few blocks to warm up the bike and then reset the idle to 1300-1500? The idle knob is fairly sensitive so I didn't know it had a factory amount of turns.

I don't know if I screw it up by turning it to many times. Can't run my bike because the carbs are so bad. I have to use my idle lever full open to keep it running and it dies when given any throttle no matter what temp the engine is. With this said, there must be a factory setting and with that said, you must be able to break it if you turn it one way too many time.... but I don't know. I am used to working on cars, not bikes.

I just read the service manual under Periodic Maintenance and Fuel System and can't find a factory setting. It just tells you how to adjust it and what the recommended setting is. Did you check the other end where it's connected to the carb?

Yes, if that's the thing you can access on the side of the bike... It has a black knob I think. It's been almost 2 years since I've seen it. Just trying to pick some brain before I get home and turn wrenches.
