he slammed on the brakes, hit the back of the other bike and came off the bike and head-butted the old lady that was sat on the very back of the scooter... sadly the lady passed away later in the hospital, due to the incident. while the other 2 came away with not much, while my friend had a broken nose, scrapes, and broken bike. there were even witnesses who corroborated with the police that it was NOT the fault of my friend... but in the end he paid for everything, including getting the body sent back to the village where she came from on another island. its a tricky business driving bikes (and cars for that matter) here. there is constantly the risk of people doing totally stupid $h!# on the roads, and they expect others to just be aware and avoid them. that is in fact what happens most of the time, but... all too often it leads to accidents. it all comes down to education, or the lack of it... you buy your drivers license here. you don't do any tests for it. so ya, you have millions of loony drivers here ![]()

a busy day
So the ups man showed up the other day with a look on his face like I had kicked his cat. . .
I guess he wasn't as happy as I was to see all the things he was carrying. box 1: full Jardine rt-5 system. box 2: a lovely sunbeam read Hotbodies undertail box 3: a dark smoke double bubble wind screen box 4: parts to re-locate lic plate to swing arm ![]() ![]() ![]() like a kid on Christmas I dashed out to put it all on. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Next, the rear end, I was a bit hesitant because I was trying to do the entire thing without cutting. I sure needed more hands but it went ok, some sag by the extra plastic that I didn't remove. It still has a little gap, the picture makes it look larger than it is, but I added 2 screws in the existing holes and it hardly noticeable compared to the normal gap that exists with the cowl. ![]() I also did the license plate while I was here, little tricky getting power for the lights down there but not to bad.(hopefully it meets Ca. regulations, doubt it but only one way to find out. ![]() ![]() ![]() All in all it turned out about how I was expecting. Other than few snags and the volume of the exhaust I couldn't be happier. |

I just went out for a 15 minute ride and made attempts at 0-60mph times. My best was about 5.5 seconds 0-60 (65 indicated). There was one attempt going slightly up hill that the lil ninjette did a power wheelie at about 9k in first gear ,wot

Just got done syncing the carbs. First off, the milwaukee offset driver thingy is brilliant beyond compare. Secondly, one carb was pulling way more vacuum than the other. Anyone know if it should be checked more than the manual says? Anyway with two shims under each needle and the carbs in synch it's like a new bike.

Put on some gold reflective rim tape...
Was riding two up with my girlfriend on the highway and when I went to downshift I realized there was no shift lever to downshift with. I exited the highway with the bike stuck in 6th and had to stop short to avoid some jacka** that decided to stop at a green light. Pushed the bike across the road and assessed the damage -- the bolt holding the shift lever on fell out (previous owner never used locktite on the bolt??). Pushed it for a bit and then was able to get it rolling in 6th with generous throttle and clutch feathering. Managed to putt into the dealership 2 miles away and get it fixed. Picture of girlfriend making a strange face before taking the bike for a spin after the rim tape: ![]() |

I've actually started my bike in 6th gear before, well, a few times. I was just testing the bike out, seeing what I could do.
It's just like starting in first, but you let the clutch out for about 3 seconds and rev it to about 9 grand and eventually let it fall to about 5k RPM. Then no clutch. Ezpz, I did it with someone on the back, too. Yeah, I'm thorough on my bike tests.

Hawk637 I like the mesh in the vents. I've got it too. Too bad you didnt get the red and amber lenses instead of smoke. then all you need is a double bubble and 2bros and we'd have identical bikes!
anywho... I drilled my slides according to the DIY and took it for a spin around the block. It makes a huge difference. Still not instant, but significantly less lag than stock. |

I never downshift from 2 to 1 unless the bike is at a complete stop. are you downshifting it to 1 while moving? not that you're not supposed to... I just never find a need to.

I shift from 2nd down to 1st as I roll to a stop, normally never above 15mph. Generally I shift into first while holding in the clutch coming to a stop. I don't engage first gear until I take off from the stop. When I shift down to first the rpm's are generally at idle speed because I go through 2 gears (3-2-1).
