RPMs during freeway riding
what are your ninja 250s running at when you're cruising at say 70 or 80 mph?
took my ninja out yesterday for an hour long ride on the freeway here in san diego and it just seemed like i was killing the engine i was at 8k rpms when going 70-80 and that just seems too high for me is 8k rpms normal at 70-80 and is that ok for extended periods of time? |

Anything below 7k actually hurts the bike
You should invest in some earplugs too btw. |

Don't wait until you hear ringing in your ears. You just lost some hearing and there's no getting it back. I suggest you at least try some earplugs. I've heard people say the same thing about needing to hear the engine and the traffic and also musicians talking about needing to hear the music. After they've tried earplugs, they told me the earplugs actually cut out the noise(wind/traffic/people) and you can actually hear the engine/music better.

Yes, this is normal. Also gives the bike a little kick just in case you need to give it some power to get out of a potentially dangerous situation.

11k+ for the 5 years my 250's been off the show room floor. The mechanic at the shop owned an 87 and told me "I never let mine drop under 7k, especially in town. In town you want to be around 7k to have the power to get out of trouble." I saw his bike, and I took his advice.. So far it hasnt gernaded itself and i have beat the hell out of it as far as rpm's go over the years

Yes ear plugs are the best. I always thought they were dumb but finally got some and there so much better. You do hear the engine more

Went out riding with Mizono today and since I just got it back from the 600 mile service, I rode the heck out of it. I kept it in the 9k range, even below highway speeds... if I wanted to speed up and feel a nice pull, it was in the perfect zone.

My bike rides between 9-11k when riding highway. Of course, that's pushing 90mph on the high end.
I'll have to look into the 15t sprocket. I would love to have a little more headroom on the highway!

I really like the 15T install. 6th gear feels like 6th. With the 14T sprocket I was always trying to shift to 7th.

I'm with you on that, Thomas. 6th never seems right. I got some larger tires on front and back this week and I can already feel a slight difference in my RPMs.
