Cable sleeves

I was skimming the DIY for rearset installation just now and I saw a red braided sleeve protecting a cable in the rear. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on what kind is needed or if it even matters as long as it's "flame retardant" or "chemical resistant" or if it even has to be special. I'm not even used to the stuff for PC wiring, and that doesn't even get anywhere near as hot as auto usage. Would also be interested if anyone has any quality sites or knows if certain auto parts stores would have it in stock, Red and/or Blue only. I was thinking how nice some coloring to cables/wires might give the bike some pop to the eye candy department. Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about stainless steel brake cables? The sleeves come in many colors and actually is an upgrade to the rubber stock ones. An example is the link below:

Btw, if you get SS lines, it's recommended more for the front brakes vs rear.

I was actually talking about whether or not something like braided nylon or braided kevlar, would hold up to temps in/around the engine area. Something that I could take a cable off, slip the sleeve on, secure the sleeve, then reattach the cable. All for the sake of looking not so black and rubbery.
But thank you for recommending the stainless steel brake lines, I completely forgot brake lines were right along the lines of what I am looking for.

Braided Kevlar should be fine, Ive seen it in alot of electronics and i know it can resist heat a good amount. If your doing it just for the look, a thought might be leave the rubber and add some braided kevlar for the color.
