Weird Ninjette
I happen to like a series of books called "Weird...." .... being a state. There is one for practically every state as well as one for the whole of the USA. It has given me a few ride ideas. I have gone on 'weird' rides just to see these things/places. I was wondering if there were any other weird places you have been to.
For instance... Pa Shoe House - Gravity Hill

I wasn't riding at the time, but if anyone is ever in S. Alabama, go through Enterprise, there is a monument to the Boll Weevil, the pest that wiped out cotton as the main crop.

I know there is one coming out of the Waipio Zippy's from their parking lot onto the main road there. I don't recall if I've ever seen any others. It made me wonder wtf that was, too.

But
one time, at band camp, back up.....
Out riding a few weeks ago, got caught in the rain and hid out in a covered waiting area at the glider port at Dillingham ... on the way back, I remembered this sign and stopped to get a pic of it. I crack up every time I pass it. nb

take a pic of your bike next to it... not nearly as cool as a shoe-shaped house, but it can't be helped.

Right off of Route 30... You probably passed the sign and the house (everybody does even though you can see it from the route) you can get to it on old Lincoln Highway
Map! Found it! Upper Right hand corner

BlueTyke...I admit...I have NEVER heard of Gravity Hill. Here in California, all we have is a Terminating Governator. Do the claims on the website (not the really silly ones) really happen? Just curious.

Good luck with that one Ryan! You can have the haunted places! Phil has been to the haunted Prison up there in PA. Said that was pretty neat.
(I am not one for scary! But I have checked out a lot of the covered bridges in Bedford County)

Not necessarily the haunted, but "ghost" in that they were once booming and are now deserted.
The covered bridge thing is another one I want to do. Find all of them in PA. Being close to Lancaster gives me pretty good access to a bunch. |

I still have to do the lancaster bridges...
PA is very good about their histories and locations. I found a lot of the Bedford ones online. Most of them have a Wiki page too... One day I will hit them all I think Taps/Ghost Hunters did a few episodes up in PA somewhere.. Not sure where though I try to avoid that show

Camoroz, you should have a blast with the covered bridges. I used to cycle(the pedal kinds) quite a bit and a local club puts on a ride that goes through a lot of the covered bridges in the area for about 65-75 miles(depending on detours and stops for ice cream, heh heh), it's a nice ride for either kind of bike!

Ok Sunny. You have my interest. I went and picked up the book "Weird Missouri". It has all kinds of neat stuff in it and neat places to visit. So as soon as my riding skills are better and I can venture out more distance, I will be visiting some of these places and taking pics.
Now do go thinking it will be next spring. Some of the places are in the St. Louis area and I hope once I get used to The Kid, we'll be good to go. I'll have to pick up Weird Oklahoma (my home town) and Weird Illinois since that's pretty close too. Thanks for giving ideas of places to ride and reading material!!
