That's bogus. I hate smoking/tobacco as a general habit/hobby/whatever because I think it's gross. But on principle, that's too far. If they ban tobacco in the MLB, that's just going to snowball to losing rights other rights because they "influence" kids. Maybe we should ban parents. They influence kids.
grrrrr. This is why my political status on fbook is "politician are idiots" |

That stuff causes oral cancers that are way more virulent and harder to treat and more disfiguring than smoking tobacco, and we would all be better off if it was banned altogether but that will never happen.
And spitting that brown crap out in public is OK? Why not allow pissing in public if you want? Is any behavior taboo or or socially unacceptable or should it all be allowed with no government or society interference? And BTW, it's totally legal and within their rights for the teams to prohibit use of that or regular tobacco or any other drugs for their players if they so decide. They are paying them to perform and want them at their best, and not have to pay for or cope with self-inflicted diseases, or what they may perceive as a bad image problem. For example, Ben Rothlisberger was prohibited by his team for riding his or any other motorcycle after he got into an accident and was out of play for a few weeks. For the players - get over it. If the teams or the league makes up those rules for you, tough. You're getting paid millions of dollars to play a game, so save the tobacco for when you go home. See if your wife and kids let you chew that crap at home. And if you the spectator, can't watch a game without seeing someone chew that stuff and spit it out, to get some satisfaction, then go join some spitting club or other place that does that. You can look at this as government interference if you want, but there are many other ways to look at it too and this is not a battle worth fighting or complaining about. |

Well with the current state of things in the nation. I would think there are more pressing things to take care of..... Bring on the nanny state.....full speed ahead.
Ya know there are some TV shows that set a bad example for kids. I would say the gay pride parade sets a bad example. How about drinking beer?? That sets a bad example. Do a few senators decide and get to rename Busch stadium? How about Miller park or Coors field? Some parents set a bad example for kids. Who gets to decide if "bad" parents get to keep there children. All the fighting in hockey sets a bad example All the excessive speed in auto and motorcycle racing sets a bad example. Guess we will ban motorcycles. I could go on..............Its a slippery slope were heading down if this is allowed. I can understand although I dont support the smoking ban. (Other peoples health issue.) But this one is over the line..... and foul so to speak.

I'll admit, when I was young and played ball.
I wanted a big ol' chew just like my hero's, but my parents where smart enough to teach me that, when I get older I could do what ever I wanted, but not while I was in their house! A little parenting goes a long way!

I started dipping in college and I played football and most of us dipped even on the sidelines. I started out with Copenhagen and now I dip Grizzly long cut mint.
Right or wrong but here in the south it is a cultural thing. Just so you know I have quit dipping several times |
