Don't push your trip button in motion
Well after almost always pushing my trip meter button while pulling away from the gas station, it finally broke. I asked Google and he told me I should only push it while stopped, never in motion.
It was stuck for a while around 150, but after a strong push its now stuck at zero. So I figure I can either buy a new tach, or open this bitch up and try to fix it. Anyone else learn the hard way? |

That Applies for Cars too!!! If it is a mechanical trip meter do it STOPPED. In motion will eventually strip the gears. If you have a digital one it doesn't matter!

I remember reading about that.. maybe on the ninja250 faq site.. never heard of one actually breaking though.. sucks but if it bothers you.. is there a way to swap over another trip odometer part without losing the odometer on your speedo with mileage?

I've never even thought about that. It makes sense though...it's trying to turn, and you're trying to stop it. Thanks for the heads up. Probably not smart to be messing with it while you're riding anyways, even though I do it every time. I always pull away from the gas station and get about 10 miles down the road before I'm like, oh ****, forgot to push the button.

I don't like playing the 'OhshitIgottagettoagasstation' game.
So I usually gas up before my big commutes, or day of riding. |

Good to know this can happen ...
I usually fill up at 250 miles regardless, but I do rely on my trip indicator a lot too. thanks for the heads up!

Oddly enough, I noticed while out that it seemed to be moving through all the numbers once again fine. I figured all the little plastic bits inside musta realigned or something.
Today I reset it back to all 0's before heading out, but its back to no movement. I wonder if after another 100 or so miles it'll start working again like yesterday. |

Probably bends/breaks/wears down the first cog on the "ones place" zero gear...and probably even worse if you hold the button down...
Not that it helps now. great...there's another bad habit I get to work on.... |

I guess this explains why my trip meter sometimes doesn't work....but sometimes if I push the button really hard it resets and works fine.
