Ninja 250 won't go over 100mph
I'm asking this question for a friend of mine who has the new body style 250. Is the bike govern so that it won't go over 100mph?

Yes, it's governed by the laws of physics.
It's 30hp what exactly are you expecting? |

I'm not expecting anything b/c I don't own it I'm just asking for a friend of mine. They state that the old body style would go over 100mph but for some reason this one won't so I figured I would ask.

lol sorry couldn't help myself. No there is no limiter. If you do the exhaust and jet the carbs you can just get it to crack the ton.
And even then, if the speedo says 100.... you are actually closer to 95. I've done 98mph at Palm Beach International in 6th gear at 12000rpm, thats with a gps timer. Last weekend with 45°-50° weather, she was really purring, I think I got her into the 105 range. Not sure if the older one is faster. They have smaller wheels so I don't know how that works out. |

You've clearly never dropped a ninjette from an airplane. As fast as a supersport there.

I've got mine to indicate 110mph. Is your buddy a sumo wrestler as well?

110 indicated on mine. I hear the older model was lighter and made slightly more HP.

I believe pre-gens have a slightly higher compression ratio. That would account for the increased midrange and lower top end power.

Once you start making equivalent intake/exhaust mods, the new-gen seems to make more power... not to mention, that's all before changing the timing on the newgen so that it's similar timing to the pregen. They're the same speed pretty much |

If you put flame decals on, you can probably get an extra 2 or 3 mph on the top end.

Rev limited top speed on stock gearing is just under 110mph, so in theory your friend can reach that speed with a long enough straightaway. If the bike made 200hp it still would only go 110mph on stock gear ratios and tire sizes, it would just get there a hell of a lot faster.

You have it backwards a little. The pre-gens DO have a higher compression ratio; 12.4:1 vs 11.6:1. However, that gives the pre-gen slightly less mid-range and better top end. Pre-gen: 28.05 bhp (20.92 kW) @ 12500 rpm and 13.15 ft·lb (17.83 N·m) @ 9,000 rpm tested at rear wheel. New-gen: 26.4 hp @ 11,000 rpm (rear wheel) and 13.6 ft·lb (18.4 N·m) @ 9,750 rpm.

So, you're planning to blow the engine up in a quest to break 110? Good luck with that.

The valvetrain is good to more than 15,000 rpm easily (according to Sportisi), the reason Kawasaki lowered the rev limiter is because when held at 15,000 rpm (where the rev limiter was on pre-1995 bikes) for long periods of time, there were issues with oil delivery. So they stepped it down to 14,500 after '95, and down to 14,000 [citation needed] in 2003 or something like that. Unless he holds it at 15k for an hour, he'll be fine.

Actually, I would place money on the 250's terminal velocity being close to that of its top speed unless you managed to drop it and keep it going perfectly straight towards the ground, the drag would likely cause it to tumble through the air, so the 250 is still slower
