Low speed drop on highway
I was merging into the right lane during trafiic and the gut in front of me stopped really short. Dropped the bike on the right side. I have pictures of the damage. The area where the rear brake and foot peg broke in half. I'm thinking about unscrewing those four hex screws and using abs cement mix to attach those pieces together again. Then I can reattach the spring for the rear brake. Such a hassle but thankfully I'm ok. If anyone else has suggestions, please let me know!IMG_20120623_200441.jpg

In the interest of safety, I would replace that part. Cementing is a temporary fix at best.

I don't even know where to start looking for that part. Any place I can order from? It seems all I really need is that metal frame part.

Can't be real accurate from the pics, but it seems like you need a new bracket (frame part) and a new pedal as well (it seems twisted). Now as to the bracket, you can find those for cheap on ebay, no biggie, and for the pedal, either you can try bending it back into shape (try metal shops), again ebay (my favorite place when it comes to parts lol) or try bikebandit.com and cheapcycleparts.com (both have parts schematics/drawings). Good luck.

It's the rearset bracket. About $90 from the dealer, much cheaper on ebay.

I can't seem to find that part on ebay and I think bikebandit has it for around 85 (if it is the correct part I'm looking at). I will probably go to a dealer and look for that part and see how much it is around my area.

eBay? Pfft. Hello?! There are people on this very forum selling them right now!
Anyway, the reason you're having trouble finding it is because Kawasaki calls the whole assembly the right-side "footrest" but others might call it the right-side "rider's peg bracket" (as opposed to passenger peg bracket) or the "rear brake stay/bracket." "Rearset" is confusing because it comes from adjustable racing rearsets and refers to both the left and right side as a "set." There's really no such thing as a "right side rearset," but there is a right half of a rearset. Even so, people call them left or right rearsets all the time. |
