I'm really excited by this new 300CC ninjette ^-^ I love my current 2 fiddy though, so I'm sticking with it. I'm trying to encourage a guy from work who wants to get into motorcycles to buy this 2013 300CC ninjette though: it looks like it's better as a beginner bike than my 2011 2fiddy. It has ABS and a slipper clutch, both of which make it more noobie friendly I think.

That new button to flash drivers is a safety feature, however I think a more useful safety feature would be to hook that button up to a release mechanism on the rear of the bike: you could then release your choice of anti-tailgater deterrent on demand... eg a smoke screen, an oil slick or nails

No worries @ali0120! Welcome to the forums!! If you ever have questions about how to do stuff like embedding videos, there's a forum section called "Forum information" (or something to that effect) that is helpful. You can also always page people like Alex (our awesome moderator) by putting a @ symbol, and then their username, just like I did with you in this post. You can also quote any post that you see something cool and see what tags they used to get their post to appear like that.

Jeez, with all that new crap (ABS, slipper clutch (really!?)) I'll bet they've just priced themselves out of the market. You could get a 300 for $6,000 and a 3 month waitlist or a 650 for $7,500 right now, hmmm...

So yes, you can easily disengage a slipper no matter what size the engine, go flying into a corner and drop 2 or 3 gears and let the clutch slip and not lock the back tire like a normal 250. Ask any of the racers, I would imagine a good amount of time could be eliminated with a slipper clutch

Yeah, it would be nice, but I still feel like they should have gone with better tires and suspension before going with a slipper.

I'm hoping the price increases that much. It'll either help maintain the resale value of the 250 or raise it a little.

Slipper clutches are becoming more and more common, it's just part of the design at this point. Some of the newer clutch designs allow for an easier clutch pull along with the slipper functionality as a bonus. Ducati rolled out slipper clutches on their cheapo monster line even before their superbikes got it, as it allowed for an easier clutch pull for newer riders. I've got them on all bikes in the garage except for the ninjette, and wouldn't mind it added there as well.

There is quite a bit of misinformation on slipper clutches online, including statements like "less engine braking", and automatically smoother shifting. To get the plates to slip, the mismatch in engine speed to road speed needs to be very significant. For this to happen in a street environment, the rider either has to have made a pretty big shifting error, or is intentionally riding the bike quite aggressively and downshifting extremely forcefully.

True, but the 250 is already a pretty easy clutch pull.

I guess this also is closer to being n3wb-proof now. ABS for those who panic and grab a fist-full of brake lever, and the slipper means they can just pop the clutch out on a naive high rpm downshift without worry of locking up the rear or damaging the engine.

This 300 is definitely intriguing, but if it's anywhere near $6k, it won't be my next bike.

Not knocking them in general, but 99% of Baby Ninja buyers aren't going to ever need one. Seems the money could be better put elsewhere.

Your kidding right??? When I was brand new I kicked the rear end out via downshifts at least on 3 occasions.
Of course a slipper clutch will help and probably save a few crashes from ever happening.

Just like ABS brakes, once you learn proper braking, you don't really need ABS on a bike. However, it still does help and will reduce crashes from new riders.

To me, adding ABS and a slipper clutch are just going to help. It will reduce the amount of new riders who may have had a crash w/o them and give up on motorcycles all together.

Slipper clutches are designed for the track, they aren't designed to cover up newbie mistakes regarding aggressively downshifting by accident.

Yup, exactly what I'm thinking, I kicked the rear out a few times as a noob

Read above

Also, you can still back the end out with a slipper, I've done it a few times at the track coming from a long straight into a sharp left (Chuckwalla )

And what did you (hopefully) learn not to do? You'd never learn not to downshift that aggressively if the clutch prevented the tire from locking. I agree with Ninjaone, slipper clutches are for track bikes.
