Gauging interest for a MD to PA weekend ride, next summer.
So I came up with this idea, hear me out.
I am originally from PA (west central, altoona, johnstown) and am quite familiar with the roads up and around there and there are some great mountain roads for riding. Just got my bike but i can't wait to get it up there and ride. That being said, my family has a nice "cabin" = (really nice hunting house in the woods) that is available to me as long as no one else has it booked. I have had lots of parties out there in the past, and it comfortably sleeps 7 people. More if you factor in the floor but i guess that might not be comfortable either. Thinking it would be fun to gather up a few MD riders interested in riding up to the cabin on a friday, or Saturday morning ~ 2hr 15 min from Frederick, MD (Will take back roads when available) there are some good ones to stay off 70 for a little bit. Get to the cabin, settle in and use it as base camp for doing some riding in PA. Do some crusing, come back relax, eat, then go back out and hit the pavement. Then ride back to MD Late Sunday some time. I also have a few dirtbikes and ATV's at the cabin we can dick around on as well to get some off road action in if people are interested in that. Thinking a small group would be great probably 10 people at most and if more than 3 people are interested not counting myself i think it would be a go. Thinking summer time as it will give time for all the grit PA puts down in the winter to get brushed off the road, it gets pretty bad and sketchy in the spring they know how to make a mess in the winter. You would be in charge of your bike ect... and whatever you want to eat and drink will be your only expenses. P.S. we can shoot guns too if that interests anyone? Seems kind of early to plan this but again, just gauging interest, would have been nice to get it scheduled for Oct this year but i am busy till Nov and by then it might be a little chilly Let me know |

Awesome, that was quick. NYCsteve, do you live in NY? just trying to get an idea of your game plan, i mean by all means if you want to come from NY instead of MD that is up to you, gonna be a trip for sure from North Eastern PA boarder. And yes something i guess i did not mention is, if you have offroad vehicles, bikes, atv's if you can figure out a way to cart them up there and ride your street bike at the same time by all means do it. my offroad stuff is already up there so i can't help in transportation. |

^ Sounds good to me
For MD people I'm thinking the route up would be something like this. http://goo.gl/maps/k47BJ not to exact location but close. This is the scenic route, time says 3hr 20 min but its not right. probably closer to 2.5 hrs to 2.75hrs Could always cut out some of the backroads and do more highway to save time but i guess the point is to ride and have fun, not get there in a hurry. Obviously some short stops along the way to stretch the legs ect... Another thing, once at the cabin, there would be tools and a garage if anyone had mechanical problems that needed addressed. More to come, feel free to ask questions, this could be a very enjoyable time in the making. Joe |

clever, soooo are you seriously interested or just chiming in to make a funny? At some point i will probably compile a list of people that say they are interested, or in, and when it gets closer to go time ill send out a PM or something to everyone to try and get everyone one on the same page and nail down a date. Plan would be most likely to Meet in Frederick or somewhere along the way if it is better for you |

But lets not completely rule it out, a snap decision could possibly made in early/mid november based on weather and in that case as few as 2 other people would be fine making 3 total, but more could come. I will need to look at availability as well to make sure no one is planning any parties out there for the Nov weekends. Joe |

LOL Of course I'd bring the hubby!!! I can't hole up in a cabin in the woods with a bunch of dudes!
I forgot what I had going on that weekend that's why I didn't go to OC...plus the fact that I would never in a million years ever want to cross over the Bay Bridge. Edit: by bike, that is.

As for list, I am sure there is a fancy way to get one into this thread, but for now i will just list the people that have replied
Again it is early yet but, there is nothing wrong with planning ahead So obviously I am in Subxero rmorse - is in nycSteve - is in MXsteve89 - is in minikin_jo - might be interested + 1 so as it stands that would already be enough people for me to consider it a go, i travel up there all the time so it is not like it is a special trip for me. nycsteve, what do you think your game plan would be? meet us in Frederick or Thurmont if we went that route, or just head more east and meet us in Breezewood, or somewhere else? just curious Again if any one has questions feel free to ask. On side note, MXsteve89 and rmorse, If you guys would be interested in setting up an offroad day in November that could be done very easily, Truck your bikes up, you guys might be able to work out a truck and bike pool, ride up together. Only thing is unfortunately though i would most likely only be able to ride Saturday... but all day Saturday non the less and we would have to hit the road early in the AM on Sunday at latest, or you guys could leave Saturday evening, up to you cuz i would most likely have work Sunday morning....in Frederick lol But it could be a reasonable option. Think about it |

Count me in !!! Though not for November, most likely my bike will be stored in my parents' garage by then, but if it's next year, then I am completely down! Sounds like a blast!

Breezewood sounds pretty good. If miles and r1 come through, it would also be the easiest. We can take/find some backroads to get to breezewood before meeting up with the rest of the group.

^ i am assuming you are talking about the potential street ride in November? and not the offroad one i purposed for November as well correct?
Just trying to keep things organized since there are potentially 2 different rides in November. I am thinking i could probably swing a weekend in early Nov but the weather is just so unpredictable i am apprehensive about setting it in stone. Last Oct. we got 6inches of snow one a planned offroad ride, didn't stop us but it was interesting to say the least. I had to park my 2stroke it would not get any traction and jumped on the wifes little KLX125... that thing was a tank in the snow and since it was so low i could use my feet as stabilizer skies |

Nice. I'd be in for this. I have a friend who lives in Baltimore. I could stay with him, and then ride back up to PA with you guys for the ride.

Friendly bump as a reminder to people that this is still on like donkey kong.
Been thinking about altering my original to PA route a bit, there are just so many good riding roads in this area of PA and thinking would take slightly different way up, but take this route back. Who knows, again as time gets closer things will get set in stone. Still thinking late spring, summer time. The roads up there are already covered in rock dust for winter with more to come so we want to give it plenty of time to get brushed off the roads. More to come, Best, joe |

The Cabin idea is just so that people don't have to spring for a hotel room, and it is nice secluded, and again garage + tools enough space for a dozen bikes as long as the Back-hoe is not in the garage. And perhaps some off road fun, camp fire. But by all means if someone would rather stay at a hotel down the road have at it.
Like i said, i have been thinking a lot about various roads up in the area and it is tough to decide which to include and not to. Once we get a solid list of people we can discuss how long we want the various rides to be which can help narrow down some roads. |
