weird squeal
Hey guys.
Cant seem to pinpoint this annoying noise. It sounds like a vacuum leak but when warmed up sounds like a squeal. When I try to pin point it when it starts making the sound, it sounds like its coming from the oil filter :/. I thought it might be from the coolant lines but everything is fine. Vacuum lines are all fine. Battery isnt making the noise. Noise isnt coming from the crankcase breather either. And the sound is more towards the back. Maybe around transmission or oil pan. But everytime i look i cant find anything that will be making that noise. This is with motor running and in neutral. Makes the sound in gear but I can hear it more when I am stopped in neutral. Any ideas? Maybe the filter is moving? idk

Stick your ear as close to the TB's as you can. Those air screws make a little puffing noise when air gets sucked by. It's possible that one of them is squeaking a little.

nope not even in that area, first place i looked. its literally under the bike. Sounds like the alternator or someplace in the oil pan. And only does it when the bike is warmed up

A trick I have used when trying to locate odd noises back in my AE86 days is to poke a long screwdriver onto suspect areas and put your ear to the end of the handle. Locational noise would be amplified by contact with the screwdriver. You can also use a small hollow metal tube. They make car stethoscopes like this for this exact purpose.
Edit: It also helps to rev the engine and see if the pitch of the sound changes. |

Could be something in the oil pressure relief spring assembly.

Does it sound like this? If so it's the noise of a resonance within the gauge cluster caused ultimately by the speedo cable, you will need it stripped, re-built and re-lubed.

i think he said it happens when he is holding still idling it on stands which means the speedo cable isn't moving right?

Not sure how you EFI system is set up, but could your fuel pump or relief valve make noise if it were bad or subject to temp changes?

noise isnt coming from either of them though. Literally put my ear next to them while it was running. Def not them.
