The trip back was good, no problems really. I thought I'd be a little nervous. But 5 minutes in it felt good! I'm not "comfortable" because that's a bad thing, but it feels good! I had one oopsie at a red light that turned green as soon as I got there because I didn't shift down the whole way and ended up in first. But not a big deal!!
The guy had me half scared at the dealer though, talking about all the scary gravel and road salt. I was fine. Aware of where it was and where it wasn't, but fine.

Thawed out yet? Great pics... and HEY... you (just like me) look so much better in a helmet...
I still don't have proper riding pants but I've got two riding jackets, a good pair of boots (over the ankle hiking $$$ require they do double duty) and three differnt pair of gloves and a good Nolan N103 Helmet. Pants and heated gloves are next on the list.

I just love folks, especially riders, that when you are either first starting out or considering a lengthy road trip launch into the monologue of horror stories.
I was/am planning a cross country trip and a colleague started going into all the wrecks, accidents, problems, issues, headaches, etc that he's encountered over the years of riding. Sheesh, I KNOW this is dangerous but there is so much more positive to outweigh the once in a long shot chance Fate hates you.

I stopped at the gas station to get a drink and some cigarettes. I got so many looks like what the hell is wrong with this guy. Then a guy in a harley jacket chuckled, gave me that weird approval nod thing old guys do and told me to stay warm.
So I put 48 miles on it today... in like 30 degree weather... yay me!

So around 7 last night I got a call from the cycle shop, apparently he had given me his paperwork along with mine. So at 8 this morning in 20 degree weather I made the 25 mile trip, again...
It was a good ride though, a bit cold. At one point I was so pissed though, a salt/sinder truck got in front of me and kept dropping salt every time he went over a bump... so for my own safety, I had to pass him. God being that the first time I've passed anyone at speed, that is exhilarating! lol I feel like a little kid again. I purposely keep forgetting to do stuff so I can keep going back out and ride some more!

lol and miss a chance to be with my new bike =O Never! Besides now that I didn't have my worrying mother driving behind me, and was more acquainted with my bike, I was happy to redo that trip. There are so fun roads, with nice long sweeping curves

You seem to have very similar road conditions to here, given salt and cold and that sort of stuff, I would recommend ACF50 as well as your Scottoiler you're getting, i'll do an install write-up for the scottoiler as I will fit it saturday / sunday.

Congrats! We'll have to all go riding sometime! I would say we'd match but I painted mine white heheh.
Glad to hear you liked Koup's. I didn't have a good experience with them, so I ended up going to Mechanicsburg and checking out Motor-Vation. Hopefully I will see you in the summer time!

I know it's basically preference and what not. But what do you guys keep your tire pressures at? The recommend 32-28? Since it's cold, should they be lowered or anything?

I stick with what the book says. Not sure if there's a better tactic for different seasons.
Only time I've adjusted the pressure was at the recommendation of the tire folks at the track.

If you are riding in less then desirable conditions keep them on low side, you will wear the tyres quicker, and they will feel slightly less responsive but you get a slightly bigger footprint.

Okay thanks haha! I checked and filled them today. They were like 2 psi down. I haven't felt any sort of slip or anything, but if I do I'll lower them again! But it is winter so I'm not exactly pushing the tires that hard anyway. I don't think the almost 400 miles on the tires were very hard where on them considering they still had most of their nubbies. So I'm just taking it easy.
That being said, to anyone living in PA how much do you love Sheetz's air pumps! I've never seen them at any other gas station or in any other state. But I'm sure they're elsewhere in the world. Here I'll post a picture! You just tell it what PSI you want, and it does the rest. Beeps when you're done. They are fantastic! What used to be a chore done every once in a while (in the cage that is) is now done just about every week. I think I'll probably check the bike every couple of days. Or before any sort of big ride like I do with the cage.

Yeah I love those ones. 30 minutes later and you have flat tires This is the only thing I hate about when I go up to Connecticut. I'm too scared to use those stupid things.

Really the sheetz ones are free? I've been going to Giant and using theirs..its free but not high tech. I'll have to keep an eye out for this.
yeah make sure you check your tire pressure as often as possible. I was shocked at how fast the tires lose air pressure. I filled em up, and two weeks later they were down by like 4-5psi each! I run the standard 28F/32R. It's surprising how much your handling is affected by decreased pressures. Now I check every few days, and always keep a cheap gauge in the tail for rough estimates.

Man, if it goes down that much you got a leak... better check that out before it goes down 10psi on a ride!

So another noob question for everyone. From what I remember reading and everything premium fuel isn't really doing anymore for it than regular unleaded, right?

the regular is all you need, unless you do some work that might cause detonation like installing high compression pistons.

Right. Just as I thought! I've never been one to believe in "you need this expensive octane fuel" **** for stock vehicles. I've already filled her once with dirty unleaded, and it just occurred to me I should probably make sure that's what everyone else is doing.
Because I only do something if everyone else is. No use being on your own, too risky!
