knocking or rattling noise
I took the bike out for my first ride yesterday and hear this knocking or rattling noise from the left side of the bike. I believe i heard the noise after 3500-4000 rpm. I am not sure on this cuz I wanted to pay attention to the road instead of the rpm. Is this normal?

Hm any rattling noise isn't normal. Where on the left side is it coming from ie from the engine area or down by the shift linkage... Does it sound mechnical or like a loose bolt?

I think it's coming from the engine. Sound more mechnical than loose bolt.

have you had a chance to rev it in neutral on its kickstand to try and pinpoint the source?

Before you get too carried away check the oil level just to be sure. On the '08 forward with only the side stand you need to slide a 2x4 under the stand (wide part up) to get the bike more level for checking the level.

I'll check the oil tomorrow b4 I take it out for a test ride. It seems like everyone is having this same problem. Do bikes have recalls like autos? Thanks all. |

And the answer is YES, bikes DO have recalls. Ducati recalled their new StreetFighter the day it debuted for a possible cracking fuel hose fitting that could cause fires. Most of the problems with these bikes related to hardware should have been caught during set up from the dealer and never happened, again at the 600 mile first service, and then nothing should go wrong fastener wise from there. Other than routine service, T-CLOCS is your friend. (Tires and wheels, Controls, Lights and electrics, Oil and other fluids, Chasis, Stands)

You mean things work loose on a high revving, vibration filled vehicle like a motorcycle? Who would have guessed it?

hmmm im not sure i know what your hearing, but on my 250R only noise thats weird ,etc was the dreaded FRONT WHEEL BEARING (squeeak, squeeak. . . .) but it was stopped , for now!
I do though, hear a noise which my guess is, its just a "Vibration noise" , of the front fairings or some part of the plastic Body panel. if i remb right, i here it as im slowing down for a red light, etc @ about 25-30 MPH! Its like a Vibration HUM if anything come to think about it! I dont feel its sumin Bad, or bugs me, so i just wondered if anyothers here, have Hear this Humming type vibration noise? Is that normal on a sportbike... any kind suzuki, honda, yamaha, kawi? cuz of the Plastic body panels... with high RPMs your bound too get sumin Vibrating like crazy and HUM* |

it's really hard to tell where the sound is coming from on a bike cuz of the wind and road noise. I hear it louder when i pull in the clutch lever. maybe it's just a humming noise you're talking about. i have no idea. i only hear it when i ride.
