Planning out my fender elimination
I am thinking about combining this:
http://www.saylorspecialties.com/FenderEliminator.html with this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/180740014442...84.m1423.l2649 to make for some integrated turn signals in the right and left of the brake light, as well as the rear fender elimination itself. What kind of amber bulbs will I need for these? Does it matte that they appear to be 2 wire as opposed to 3 wire? Do I just run the wires currently going to the turn signals, up to the brake light housing for the new turn signal locations?

I simply pulled the bulbs out of my rear turns and placed them in the spots next to the brake lights via hot glue... Uses te same connectors as factory since its the same socket and bulb.
Then I just bought 2 L brackets an made a license plate holder But you may have to convert to a electronic flasher relay as I tried different bulb sockets that I purchased from advance auto and they flashed too quickly with the stock turn signal flasher. |

I wonder if there are measurements to make a similar "fender eliminator". I've been running my bike with that plastic (previous owner removed it) and I could use that storage space. 60 dollars is a pretty ridiculous asking price.

Wow $60 I didn't even look at the price. I did the same thing, I took my dremel and cut out the excess of the rear fender so it looks identical to that and keeps the storage. Maybe I should charge for instructions on how to do this!

I just choose not to go the DIY route on this one. I always find myself cutting corners on obvious aesthetically related parts, and always manage to mess it up. 60$ didn't seem too bad compared to the other ~$100 kits I saw.
If I glue the sockets from the pod flashers to the brake light housing, how would I go about changing the bulbs should they go out?

You're fixing the sockets in not the bulbs, the bulbs are a standard twist and pull. But the sockets stay in place.

Gotcha. Sounds like it should be relatively easy then. Do they have 2 or 3 wires running to them?

2 wires, it's the factory turns so they're made to plug in back there. Only thing that required a little force was getting the socket out of the stock turn signals, once you loosen the screw and yellow lense comes off the turn signal you'll see you have to cut it out of there. A dremel took 10 seconds to do and it lifts out.
Other thing with this mod is to make sure you check local laws, my local law for Delaware states of turn signals are red and brake lights are red the turn signal must be 9 inches away from each other. I highly doubt anyone gets pulled over for it but just a heads up. |

One thing that's been keeping me from installing a fender elimination kit is the fact that I want to keep my turn signals. I have no desire to integrate them into the pods - in fact, these pods are wired to act as extra brake lights.
I thought about pulling out the dremel and removing the excess, but keeping the tabs where the turn signals go but I'm afraid it'll look like **** Tips? Advice?

Edit.. Just looked at your eBay link and those smoked pods with the yellow bulbs are perfect, I actually think I may pick up a set wish I cod get just the lenses though as I do not need the socket/bulbs.
And I tried cutting out the excess and leaving the turns there but though it looked funky so I went away with it all together. Just my opinion though I was skeptical about the turn integrated there too but they're brighter red than the brake light and flash so once I tried it out it's still quite noticeable and once they're yellow it'll be plain as day. IMO |

Yeah it will be legal since I will get different color lenses for the signal part. I'll make sure to drab a new dremel bit.

You could always try the socket and bulbs that come with eBay lenses and see if they'll work, the ones I picked up from advance required a too powerful bulb so it got the relay too hot and caused them to flash too fast. Only hook up 2 wires and leave the other taped off. My front flush mounts have 3 wires, only used 2 and they work like oem.

That FE is great! I have it. $60 is nothing, considering it's better than the other kits, is cheaper, and looks better than DIY methods. It's also hand laid fiberglass and bolts right up to where your fender came off of. It's literally perfect.
It's either pay 100+, DIY with varying results, or pay $60 for something that is right. |

L-brakets either on the plate bracket, or the bolt that holds the fender to the bike. That will tuck the turn signal up closer to the bike.

I got them all started in the threads with my fingers, and then wiggled it a bit so that all the holes were lined up, and then tightened them down. Never given me problems, and I've had it off a couple times.
Glad it worked out for ya. It looks great! Now it just needs to be green |

Heh, I just did this mod today. Dremel, hot glue, etc. I reused the original turn signal housing (with lots of cutting) so I could easily change the bulbs out when needed. Well, until I do an LED mod.
