Chain cleaning and lube
I have been using the DuPont chain saver for the first 4000 miles. Since the Walmarts in San Antonio don't seem to have t here, I decided to try Maxima Chain Wax. Seems to go on very well, not as clumpy as chain saver. A little harder to clean overspray because it does have a tackiness to it. Otherwise, absolutely no fling an leaves a nice bronze film that is very helpful with showing what you have sprayed.

Put on black swingarm spools. Conditioned the seats. Attempted to make the tank pad stick better but I think what's done is done. About to go for a ride.

I used a Tapp Lite from 3BR Powersports. Super easy. Black to negative battery terminal and red tapped into taillight so as to not drain the battery. Only provides power when bike is on. Works great! You can always wire it directly to your battery if you wanted.

Put my bike up on the rear stand, strapped it down, connected PCV to the computer and ran it through all the gears(clutch less mostly) keeping it in the 10-13k rpm range. what did I achieve? I have no idea... lol I'm pretty clueless as to tuning it is concerned and don't have access to a tuning center either.
Bike strapped to the rear stand. Non heat resistant power coat pretty much burnt off... Not sure if you can see the smoke, but it was smoking pretty bad before I took the pics... |

Later in the day I went to the service center to get some stuff sorted out. My issues were: -
1) Rear brakes not working properly - Seems the Banjo bolts or washers are causing a leakage in the rear brake lines, gotta get them replaced. I think I overtightened them while installation. 2) Front brake indicator switch was unplugged - got it fixed 3) Front indicators weren't working - I had wired them incorrectly, got it fixed. 4) Throttle not closing all the way and has lots of play thanks to my constant fiddling for the zip tie mod - gotta tinker with it a bit more as the cable is running off the cam, causing it to stick. I'll probably grind down a bit and add another zip tie to let the ribbed part act as a guide. 5) Got the coolant changed. 6) One side of my HID install is not working, gotta sort it out. Gonna work on it a bit more tomorrow and install the tender cable etc... |

ordered new gaskets for engine tear down. Not really looking forward to it. I hope I don't have to order rings. Damn shipping is ridiculous.
Also, really not looking forward to spending more money on motor. Going to get the crank balanced as well.

So I'm still waiting on my chain so I can mount my new tires and in the mean time I can do anything but the necessary commuting on it, so no fun rides this weekend so if a can't ride then I guess I'll do the next best thing and work on it.
I traced a minor lose connection in my Koso wiring and did some rerouting of my birds nest of wires to clean it up a bit(I know its hard to tell but its better now) Next on the list was my insanely hard to turn throttle. No it's not hanging up and it snaps back just fine, its just feels like it has the world stiffest Efing return spring. I've but wanting to do this for over a year but I HATE pulling the Efing carbs because its a total PITA with the airbox still in the way. After pulling it out and doing some inspecting I tried to take out on rotation of the spring but then it was to weak. So I split the difference and hung the spring about 90degs from it original location with some safety wire. I put it all back together and it felt a little better until I started the bike. After waiting a moment for the bike to idle properly from the carbs being dry I went to wick open the throttle and HOLY $HIT WHY DIDN'T I DO THIS SOONER. It's so much better now I can't wait for later this week when I ride 500 miles down to San Diego. I suspect my MPG is going to take a nose dive now that I don't have to physically prepare myself to twist the throttle. Since I had my carb out I figured I'd give them a good cleaning because if at all possible I'd like to never have to pull the MoFos out ever again. There just a slight bit of grim on the out side that instantly fell off with a little WD40. I opened the float bowls to find that inside I've never seen carbs so clean before. I did a treatment of seafoam last month so that or the fact that I almost always run shell or chevron gas but there was just nothing to clean so I bolted it all back together. I pulled the headers off so I could high temp powdercoat them black tomorrow. |

Changed the crappy oil out for Castrol GTX 10w-40 it seems to pull better at low revs, vibration is reduced and gear shifts are a little less clinky more clunky and the engine is a little cooler to run.
My clutch feels the same, I thought that may change but it didn't. |

Finish blacking out the rest of my exhaust but I think ill try something a little different with the canister section when I have more time but for now it looks good enough.
Mounted flush mount protons but had to hold off on making the final connections till tomorrow so it would be done the right way. New throttle spring setup may be to light or I've just adapted an iron throttle hand from it being stiff to long. I hope I just need to get used to it or else the carbs are going to have to come back out plus the bike feels just a little different off the bottom end it bogs just a hair but I'm hoping its just my perception from all the throttle changes and not something related to me cracking the magic seal on my perfectly balanced carbs. |

Bike needs to be on a level surface. It's easy on the old gen with a center stand. But if it's new gen just balance the bike from the side and look at the sight glass..easy breezy!!

Yes, if just lifted up on a rear stand, it can be significantly different. If it's lifted on a front & rear stand, and is reasonably level, I have to believe that the level in the sight glass is close enough.

Pulled the throttle off to do the zip tie mod but was unsuccessful. A combination of glue not strong enough and the zip tie being too stiff.

Also partly why I replaced the oil was because it seemed too high from the shop, they must also have done this on a paddock stand, as when I measure it with the stand jacked up to balance point "with a spotter" it comes all the way up to the top line with a tiny air bubble, I will probably go to the hardware store and get a length of silicone tubing and syphon some oil out for peace of mind. Oh well, I don't seem to be burning any oil whatsoever so that's good, I have thursday & friday off work so I plan on topping up the radiator and giving her a once over Thanks guys for the feedback. |

Easier said than done, the difference between a degree or two can make the difference between full or empty, and it's near impossible to feel the true balance point while by the side of the bike and not on it.

Parked her at Corbin all day while they made me a seat to my specs. It's way different then the standard 250 seat he originally walked out with and I'd say its already a little more comfortable and its a completly differ t shape so it still feels awkward.
The good news is I've gotten used to my easier throttle spring and love it and now that I e gotten two days on my new tires I have no idea how I was able to like the last set. She got a lot of complements while sitting at Corbin for all her mods. |
