Marquez is the new Casey Stoner. Rossi told MCN:

Quote:
“He rides very similar to (Casey) Stoner and this is also because the Honda is like this. He is very spectacular and the bike moves and he slides and he always touches his elbow on the tarmac. He is very good and is already so fast. He is particular because he has a strange riding style, maybe something new. Jorge and I ride in a more classic style but Marquez is something different."

I watched the TV feed last night to see what I missed footage wise from being at the race and Marquez was just as impressive the second time around lol. Outside of using his body to the extreme to get back up on the tire, he really slides the bike alot more both front and rear tire, very Casey-esque and very fast. I think Dani suffered as much from tire choice as anything else, just ran out of grip at the end.

At the start of the race Dani had good soft tiers but was unable to keep MM off his tail. He knew he need to get a big lead as early as possible and was unable to do so.

Okay, so I've not watched nearly as much bike racing as F1.

The press would be all over a guy who did that in F1. It would likely cause a big time penalty too.

Is it acceptable in bike racing?

It's a grey area. Intentionally causing another rider to crash is not acceptable. Two riders going for the same part of the track and colliding, well, it depends. Block passing is a part of the sport, where you put your bike right where your opponent wants to be, so they have to choose to slow down, run wide, or find a way to cut underneath.

Some riders get a rep for being more reckless than others. Often those same riders are some of the fastest and most successful, so they make more than the usual amount of enemies along the way. Marquez is one of those riders, as he barged his way all the way through the lower classes without worrying about a little bumping of anyone in his way to the top.

Yeah, I am on the fence. On one hand Lorenzo left the door open, on the other Marc came from WAY back and forced the issue questionably. It wasn't like a one off never in contention dive though; he had been hounding for a way past all race.

Yeah, me too. I REALLY like Marquez, and I really WANT to like him, so I'm trying not to let this bias my judgment. On the one hand, I didn't even see it as overly agressive at the time: Lorenzo made a mistake, and got screwed because of it, since Marquez put himself where Lorenzo wanted to be. But then I heard the announcers saying how Marquez couldn't have made the turn WITHOUT taking the bump off Lorenzo, and that seems shady -- to make a move so aggressive that the only way to stay out of the gravel is to run into your opponent.

It may have been too much. But DAMN the boy can ride.

That is the way I saw it. I do not think MM would have been in the gravel but he would have had to stand the bike up and cut some speed to stay on the track. I like him alot and this does nothing to change my mind, but it was a bad pass.

I had to work this morning, so I just watched the lap-by-lap updates in the background at motogp.com. I was so upset when Rossi crashed! Crummy conditions, but it shook things up a bit. Marquez dropped a bit, Crutchlaw really showing up, Team Yamaha generally just sucking it up. Wild day! I'm gonna' try to catch the replay of it.

Good race today. Not too wet, just enough to make things interesting.

Once again another good race for the Honda's, but not the doctor.

I remember when simoncelli took pedrosa down. They made such a big deal and had to check telemetry to see if sim was at fault. Didn't hear any mention of it with Marquez bumping Lorenzo. Maybe I need to re subscribe to RRW mag.

Ruled a racing incident; no penalty assessed to either rider. Looked to me like Bautista owes Vale an apology, but these things happen.

Also, I still don't understand what happened with Marquez. It's like he just decided to take a nap.

Bad race: my two favorite riders crashed out -- one early, and one to give up second place. Not cool!

He was pushing the front all race, and was just a smidge off line on that corner. It went, and he couldn't catch it that time. It is a shame that he didn't back off once he realized he wasn't going to catch Lorenzo anyway.

Interesting. I didn't get to watch the whole race, as I found out at start time (to my dismay) that I no longer have SpeedTV. (Gonna' have a chat with SOMEONE at Verizon about that tomorrow!) But that gives more context than just the video of him going down, where it's hard to see him doing anything wrong.

There was a nice interview with him after the race, where he was very humble, and even apologized to Honda. He reiterated that he's still a rookie, and that he's honored to still be in the fight for second, and knows he has a lot to learn. Apparently that ^^^ is one of the things he has to learn!

I don't remember him taking out Stoner or Rossi last year. He did, however, punt Lorenzo off the track at Assen:

I don't think Bautista made a lot of fans (certainly not me) yesterday with his facial expressions and body language in the box after the crash. He reminded me of a little kid thats pouty at the world because he is being called out on a mistake.

Contrast that with VR hamming it up shortly after the crash again. Or with MM's humble interview after the race mentioned above. Easy to see why some riders have a bigge following than others.

I want a suit with airbags like he's got.

Unfortunately I'd have to sell a kidney to afford one.
