Rivet instead of screw on fairing?
Sorry about the newb. How do I remove this rivet, all fairing vids on YouTube show it as a screw not a plastic rivet..

After it is unlocked, try using some flat tool to pry it out.

I think it is a [ you ] type tag... You'll get used to it, and then start ignoring it.
The little clips on mine do not go into rubber, there are 3 on each side of the front splash shield and hold plastic to plastic in the front of the side fairings. Yes, you click them IN and then pry/pull them out. To reinstall, just push the middle tab back out all the way.

AHHH, I just figured it out.
Someone put that in the wrong place. That is the upper of 2 bolt locations that hold the side fairing to the front fairing. There is a wellnut behind there that should get an allen-headed bolt with clear plastic washer.

You can get a windscreen bolt replacement kit that will have all that in it already. I think a 6-pack was $14.99 at Cycle Gear.

To remove push the center in. I used an allen key for no good reason other than it was hard:
Then pry it out with a flat head screw driver if it's stuck: To re-install, pull the top part out and snap it all back together: |

The reason I had difficulty/was unsure I was doing it right was because 4 of them were inserted where there should have been screws into wellnuts... So these were sticking into wellnuts and even after popping in were impossible to pull out without breaking them. |

Thanks.. Will it have the rivets too? I've only got 1 kawi dealer anywhere near me which probably won't have them in stock... How hard are these to find online? You know where I can find part numbers? |

Previous Owner's
If you have the 6 that go in the lower/under fairing, that's all you need for black push-in clips. The windscreen bolt kit will come with bolts, washers and new wellnuts. Way cheaper than piecing it together, IMHO. For any/all of it, you could always go through Ron Ayers... 92039A for the black plastic rivets http://www.ronayers.com/Cowling-Lowers--C236764.aspx

With that kit from Amazon you'll have parts you really don't need and can't use. Better alternatives. http://www.cyclegear.com/CycleGear/A.../p/38071_50207 http://www.cyclegear.com/CycleGear/A.../p/37859_59409 http://www.boltmotorcyclehardware.co...ke-rivets.html http://www.boltmotorcyclehardware.co...fasteners.html |

The bolt hardware one is perfect... $14 for everything I need. Unfortunately.. $19.95 to ship to Canada... The cyclegear is $22 for everything I need... $24.99 to ship to Canada... So I'm back up to $40+ for either... I'll probably order these to my grandmas house in Lockport, NY for next time I take everything off as I won't be riding there for at least a few weeks...in the meantime, I've found the wellnuts, washers and bolts (except it's a phillips not hex) at lowes for about $15 and another few bucks for similar sized rivets, just with a different look.. I'll probably go with those for now so I can put it back together and ride... |

Thanks for the tip on the windscreen bolt kit.. Royal distributing really needs to make their site more google friendly, but I managed to find them manually going through the catalogue and its only $10 and 10 minutes down the road! http://www.royaldistributing.com/Cat...ng-Fall/m/#330 They also have ATV rivets, so they probably have the ones I need too, just don't have time to look ATM. http://www.royaldistributing.com/Cat...r/page199.html |
