Are front and rear brake pads the same?
So, I was riding my bike home from Cyclegear with oil, filter, and chain lube in my back pack and all of a sudden I was getting a weird feel on my front brake and hearing a raspy metal sound under braking. I stopped and come to find out, one of my front brake pads is down to the metal.
Anyways, I've been calling some dealers and cyclegear to see if they have the part but they said that they would have to put them on order. I really want to ride this weekend and I NEVER use my rear brake so they are basically new. I was thinking of swapping the front and rear for now so I can ride, while waiting for a new set of EBC pads, but was wondering if they are the same. I figured I'd ask before I start taking things apart. |

They are indeed the same, and therefore interchangeable.

Seems a little low. Not abnormal, if you are pretty agressive.

Seems about right. I was to the metal at 7k miles on our 250.

My rear brakes just barely passed inspection this year and they had just below 7k on them.

Learn to use the rear a bit more, if anything it will help lengthen your pad intervals.
