Slow leak out of the top of the petcock hose
yet another thread about fuel leaks
things i already know: 1) my petcock is bad 2) its been bad as long as ive had the bike 3) the slow leak just started 4) it is coming out of the top of the tube connected to the petcock 5) if i work the hose around it will stop 6) also need to replace the vacuum hose so im pretty sure i need to replace the hose, and of cource i need to get my cheap ass in gear on rebuilding the petcock. the things i need help on: 1) a good cheap petcock rebuild kit 2) the size and length of the hose 3) best kind of clamps to use on the hose 4) good cost effective fuel filter 5) @Jiggles to bust out some insurance moneys and buy me all this stuff

i would suggest new petcock. the rebuilds while replacing all the rubber never take for me, and still leak or leak in off position, etc. bring both hoses to napa or autozone and get a foot of each, they can size them.
fuel filter should be under small engine section, most vintage shops have them as they usually have rusted out tanks. bikemaster or anything generic should be good. on some bigger bikes, running a smaller one can restrict fuel flow but the ninja is a gas sipper so anything that fits the ID of your fuel line should be good. as long as it's just a filter, make sure you don't get one for EFI. advance auto parts should have all this. |

awesome, i do all my shopping at Oriely's since i get 50% on most items. my petcock doesnt drip in off, just pours in on and reserve, so a rebuild would fix that problem.

I'm having the same issue. I noticed my oil smelled a little like gas at the last change. I pulled the hose off the petcock and sure enough it's got a slow drip while on. I'm hoping I can repair it without spending any money on replacement parts.

There is pneumatic valve (diaphragm and O-ring) that avoids fuel flowing down without vacuum. Use these guides: http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Rebuild...tcock/fuel_tap http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/How_do_...fuel_filter%3F

I've never seen a rebuild kit for the pregen, but I don't see why not. You can buy the essential parts at the dealer and rebuild it. You need to test your membrane. If the petcock itself leaks out the side or you can suck gas out of the vacuum line, then you need a new membrane. If not, then you might be able to get away with replacing just the o-ring on the membrane valve.

Does anybody know if the newgen petcock fits the pregen bikes? It seems like replacements are much easier to find for the 08+

Its bolt compatible, but I don't know if it works beyond that. The gasket is slightly different on the newgen. The neck may be shorter on the newgen which would but the knob in a bad spot.
