Crack in my helmet, should I replace?
I was cleaning my AGV helmet today and near the visor I noticed a hairline crack that split of into two. It's fairly thin and hard to see but it is a crack.. I was in a tiny spil about a year ago and I don't think it was from that. Back when I was new I also dropped it about 2 times from the distance from my bike mirrors to the ground. I was in the market to getting a new helmet soon anyways, but should I speed up the process knowing there is a crack on the shell? Or is it still usable?

Personally, i would replace it. No way to know for sure if its compromised until it's tested (i.e. you're in a wreck) and I wouldnt want my nugget in there during testing...

ummm, yeah. seeing that the shell helps dissipate any impact, a crack can have negative effects on it.
wait, what am I saying, buy a R6, R6 riders don't need helmets |

I'd replace it immediately, unless you really believe that your head is less valuable than your helmet.
If you're too cheap to chuck it, then you can slow the progress of the crack by stop-drilling it. You drill a small hole (e.g. 1/8") just beyond the end of the crack. As the crack propagates (and it WILL do so), it hits the hole and the force is spread around the circumference. This may stop the crack entirely, but more likely it will just slow it.

If you got a hairline crack from it dropping a couple feet...imagine what could happen if you crashed at any speed.
Get a new helmet. A nice helmet. Something that doesn't crack from a 3 foot drop |

I feel like this question falls into the same category as - I cut myself and am bleeding, should I put a bandage on it.

I was just surprised that this helmet was already ruined. Yes I was in a tiny accident but I barley hit my hit I kinda just fell off my bike. And I had heard dropping your helmet from the bike's distance to the ground was ok.. maybe it is ok, just not a ton of tims ha. Anyways this was no crappy helmet. It was an AGV K4 EVO DOT ECE cert.
I'll be sure to be more careful with my next lid though. |

New $100 helmet > old damage by multiple drop + crack helmet For people that cant afford shoei, that exo750 is a fine helmet for $100. Actually there are a lot of great helmets under $200. Theres no real excuse for not having a decent helmet.
