Seat Cowl Question

Hey,

I was wondering if it's possible to upholster the backrest portion of the seat cowl. The 250R that I'm looking to buy has a different seat, and I was hoping to be able to upholster the backrest to match it.

Thanks,
Jeff

I don't see why not. Lots of cafe racers have their seats made from fibreglass that has been upholstered. Just give an upholsterer in your area a call and ask them.

I wasn't looking to reupholster the whole cowl though, just the little black backrest. However, it doesn't look like it's detachable from the cowl, so I'm not sure how they would do that.

It's held in by three rubber nipples. You can just pull that piece off.

That piece is easy to pull off, as mentioned it's held on only by three or four little rubber pegs that poke through the cowling plastic. It's so easy actually i've kicked it off enough times the pegs have torn off and I'm waiting on a replacement to be shipped to me.

Oh okay, thanks for the help!

One more question that's kind of unrelated, the bike has been lowered since the previous owner is 5'8". I'm 6'0" and was looking to restore the bike to stock height. Is that simply done by replacing the aftermarket lowering rods to the oem rods and by adjusting the clamps on the fork tubes?

Thanks again!
Jeff

How do I remove the nipples without tearing them?

Oh the nipples are part of the rubber. There is no way to remove them without tearing them off.

Depends on how drastically it's been lowered, and how the PO lowered it, could be as simple as adjusting the trees in the clamps on the front(hopefully) I know some folks with some drastic lowering jobs that have cut springs or other questionably modified front end parts.
If they just got a kit to lower it (simple) take the dog bones outa the back and, adjust the trees in the clamp
