Ignition delete
Has anyone deleted their igniton switch and used the kill switch instead? Race only so I want to get rid of the keyed switch. Not an electrical guru so I need some guidance.

Fairly easy, I haven't done it but it's not hard. I'll look at the diagram tomorow and provide you with the howto.

Here's a wiring diagram that'll show you the ignition setup for the 'F' model:
http://faq.ninja250.org/images/0/00/...matic_Rev2.pdf The '93-07 models have a 100Ω resistor in the ignition that acts as a theft deterrent. You'll have to bypass this resistor: brown => white brown => 100 ohm resistor => grey I do not know if this is the exact same for the 'J' models, though I'm confident that the resistor is still there.

I saw someone on here was selling a lock set and gas cap after their race conversion. I'm not sure that they went THAT far though.
Edit: http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=59011 Looks like he did because he's supposedly selling the ignition switch and is offering a wiring diagram to use the toggle for ignition. |

I don't know if it's true or not, but I remember hearing advice not to use the killswitch too often - because the switch itself is cheap and ends up staying in the "off" position... something along those lines anyways

Thought about a toggle switch to replace the key, but that seems counter-productive: just replacing 1 switch with another. jonthechron, many thanks in advance for the info. |

I removed the key and ignition . I was afraid I would loose the Key and I also had to remove the lock from the frame( It got in the way of some wiring).
Now I am rewiring the whole bike. I am going to have a relay to power everything on the bike. The power for the relay will be an on off switch. And the ground for the relay will be through a tethered kill switch . If the switch is pushed or the clip comes out .The power is removed from the relay , That will kill power to the whole bike. Originally I had two kill switches .One for ignition and one for Nitrous. But now I will combine everything. |

Ignition switch is gone. Wiring was really quite easy. Can be returned to stock if wanted. I'll have to buy a new ignition switch because I didn't know exactly which resister to buy so I took it out of my existing switch, destroying it. Oh well, mission accomplished.

Does anyone know what the resistor value is or have a wiring diagram for this?
EDIT: Got it taken care of, thanks Last futzed with by Bueller999; January 17th, 2011 at 02:06 PM. |

for the 2008 model, where did you rout the white wire, the white and black wire and the brown. did you just tie the grey and white/black wire together with the resistor? and which if any wires did you locate to the right bar harness?
I am having a hard time with the whole thing, I can rip the motor apart but the wiring is a bitch to get the hang of. |
