When I installed the AP I am hitting the limiter a lot more. Before the install I would hit it maybe once a month and now I hit it weekly.
I think it is because when i felt the power start to drop off I would change gears and with the AP I am not getting that feedback. Is anyone else having the same experience? |

I don't think I've hit the rev limiter once. Just make sure to shift at 12.5k. That's what that big tach is for.

It has been in the 30s and 40s the last couple of weeks and my mileage is worse by 4 or 5 MPG . this morning it was 28 degrees.and I noticed my top end speed is down.
Not a lot but... Do I need a different map for the winter. @kbryant |

The FI system on the 300 (and most Japanese bikes) is a speed density system which means fuel delivery is based on modeled airflow. Basically it uses various sensors to calculate specific air density, specifically IAT (intake air temp) X MAP (manifold absolute pressure). Once air mass is established the ECU refers to various lookup tables to calculate fuel delivery. Because IAT, ET (engine temp), and MAP are constantly changing the ECU is making calculations/adjustments many times per second. The Micro Programmer Map/Tune simply adds a +/- correction to the injector signal. One question would be the ECU's accuracy at controlling the mixture from one extreme to the other (i.e 30F-105F degrees) and in most cases it is very accurate in this regard. It has to have passed a wide range of EPA/EU standardized testing. The bigger factor is very likely the amount of time the motor takes to get up to full operating temp, and maintain the most efficient operating temp, when temps get that low for performance and fuel mileage. |

Al, if the issue is the engine getting up to temp like Kerry suggests, have you considered installing a thermobob in the 300? Should be the same process as the install in a 250

I do think that would help now that you say but warm up is not near as much a problem as with the carb 250 in the cold. Performance is still better then when it was stock and my only race is getting to work before I run out of body BTUs

Would I need an updated map if I changed the stock gearing, because it changes the rpm at different speeds? Or would I not because it wouldn't affect the fuel/air in any way?

I have just installed the AreaP Micro Programmer on my bike. I am little confused with the red status light. Is the light suppose to stay on while the bike is running?

Yep. I was a little confused as well because red usually means bad. Your FI tuner is working fine!

So I finally got my exhaust installed and am loving it! The boost in HP is definitely noticeable. I accidentally got the front wheel off the ground from a start then popped it up a bit on the upshift to 2nd. Badass! The sound is also pretty awesome. It has a throaty, deep tone at the lower rpms and a nice growling roar up high.
Now I'm trying to work out the map tune for my altitude. I've been in contact with Kerry and he's given me some pointers on how to lean the mixture a bit. I'm riding at 4200ft above sea level and the air is much thinner and so requires a leaner mix. It's a case of trial and error and fine tuning at this point. I imagine I could really work it out on a dyno if I could find someone locally and the price is right. Anyway, bottom line, I love the system. |

Thank you for the comments Evan. Between the adjustments we've discussed, and the new Map sent to you this morning to try, we'll get you dialed in at 4200'
