Shogun Sliders and Vibration
I recently installed a Shogun slider kit on my 250. I followed the directions precisely and torqued all the bolts to the required numbers. After installation, I feel that there is a bit more vibration now, compared to before I installed the Shogun kit. Has anyone experienced this same thing?

the engine bolt that shogun replaces is smaller in diameter than the OEM so there might be some room there causing more vibration?

possibly. I have read that the bolts that come with the kit do not meet the same standards as the oem engine bolts. The biggest difference from what I can see is that the entire bolt is threaded (shogun) rather than only the ends (oem). Maybe that plays into it. Any other input?

click here for the wiki where I answer this question You need to be especially careful with the WAY that you torque the assembly back together with the Shogun bolts.

go to a hardware store and find a bolt/nut same size (diameter) as stock but as long as the Shogun..replace...done...

No vibration issues with my Shoguns.
I know the rod is fully threaded, but properly torqued, the engine should be held firmly enough by the tension of the torqued nut/head to prevent engine movement. Odd...? Edit: I will add that when I installed my bars, with the bike on a rear stand, I used a floor jack under the engine to relieve weight on the mounting bolts. Once the OE bolt was loose enough to spin with my fingers, I used the new slider bar bolt to push the OE bolt out and torqued it firmly before letting the jack back down. Repeat (with more jack pressure) with the rear bolt. Then torqued both bolts to final specs. |

I have read that wiki page, and I definitely put the bolts in without any force, since I had the engine jacked up. I torqued it down to 40lbs, so I don't know what it could be. The vibration isn't super bad, but I think it is still present.

I didn't notice an increase of vibration when I installed the Shoguns. Has anyone else noticed it? Maybe you're being more sensitive to it for some reason?

LOL that is what I was thinking, but then again why would I notice vibration out of everything else? It is a good possibility though, I will keep riding and let you guys know if the vibration dissipates or stays constant..... One other thought... I also changed my oil when I had the bike disassembled, could that play a role in the vibration at all?

Absolutely. A different brand of oil can totally change the feel of the bike.

yes, the bike is level, and I am trying to hold it as vertically as possible (off the kickstand). The general steps I followed were as follows, I put the new filter, and then the new oil to the upper fill line, started the bike for ~15sec. waited and refilled, that is the correct procedure right?
would you recommend that I try to disassemble the bike once again, jack the motor, and re-torque all the bolts? |

If the vibration bothers you, yeah, try redoing the bolts and see if it helps. |

One other thing I noticed is that the radiator hose is touching the shogun bracket, could this cause a hole or leak due to the constant rubbing? The shogun directions did not describe moving or rotating the hose at all (except for pushing it out of the way to insert the engine bolt), but I was just curious. |

can't comment on the hose question. that would be better answered by someone who has had shoguns on their bike for a awhile. I think Broom has them on his race bike... you might want to ask him.
