So far I have hit two jackrabbits, neither caught on video as both were in evening/night and in areas I have over filmed so wasn't bothering at the time.

i have hit many birds. at least 5. one of them left my helmet covered in some kind of liquid... seemed to be combination of blood, **** and piss.
one time a bird hit me on the side of the head and almost knocked me out. my brother was riding right behind me and said it looked like the bird dive-bombed me. not sure what happened to the bird, but i had a headache for a few hours

Not hit anything big yet, had a red kite hawk scrape across the top of my helmet, had to duck to avoid it, spotted it in the mirrors lifting a rabbit from just beyond the side of the road.
I've had sheep & muntjack deer hop out in front of me, both are a bit too big to take head on but I managed to avoid them. Also had a Jack Russell come ripping across 2 lanes of traffic & jump to bite me... it got a Sidi to the face which sent it back across a lane... hateful little runts of dogs |

I go through the rural roads between my home and work. So far, several nights ago, there they were. Mama raccoon with 10+ babies crossing the road. Besides that, a bunch of bunny rabbits that seem to think my headlight is the queue to jump out in the open road and make that crossing. Oh, and I've seen a cat.
From a group ride last year, a bumble bee met my helmet visor at about 50 mph. It did a god job hanging on and wouldn't move until I rolled my helmet around and off it went. Most of the experience is with my car before I got the bike. I'm sure I'll encounter more of them from the list below. The following is a list of what I encountered during the commute from the car over the years: 1. Rabbits - see them frequently at night 2. Coyotes - searching for rabbits at night 3. Bird (day time) - hit the windshield and I don't remember what happened. Apparently it didn't reach the other side of the road. 4. Snakes - hanging out on the road (day time) 5. Prairie dogs and its smaller cousins - trying to cross the road at night 6. Raccoons (night time) - a bunch of them laying in the middle of the road at night 7. Cat - Mama cat with her babies laying in the middle of the road at night 8. Deer - crossing the road a night 9. Escaped dogs - I've seen a huge great dane equivalent dog one time on the road. It's coat doesn't reflect light very well either. The small dog was leading the trek a quarter mile further. 10. Escaped horses - 3 of them in the middle of the road one night running around 11. Escaped cows - Fortunately, I didn't see this one, but a mini van did one night; I think the van was totaled. The cow had a dark coat. The driver probably didn't see it until it was too late. |

Almost every day I leave for work, there is a rabbit that jumps in front of the bike in my driveway. Haven't killed the bastard yet, but I will

I saw something in the corner of my eye. It was really dark. I saw a moving shadow and slowed down immediately.

Philippines is a lot like Thailand. I had to lock up the brakes on my bike one night when i rounded a bend and found a bull caribou (like a water Buffalo) laying across most of my lane! There are also many chickens running across the street and people tie their goats to the gaurd rails (they use very few there) to eat the grass growing around the rail.

I'll get a screenshot later but filmed a herd of mustangs hanging out next to a stop sign. They just stared at me until I raised the chin bar on my helmet.
They ran away with the expression that clearly communicated "Run!!! The weird creature just ripped its own face off! We're going to die!!!" Oops

It's been a while since I've posted, but yesterday I took a vulture to the head. It was on the side of the road as I came around a bend. I saw it, knew it was trouble, and it flew directly into my headlights. From there, it deposited white gunk, feathers, and blood up my windscreen and as I tried to duck down, it smacked into my helmet and broke it. There were feathers sticking off the top of my helmet as I was riding home. I have a headache still, and a sore neck. It felt like getting hit by a brick, it was flippin massive!!

I've hit a deer on a cycle, on the Interstate, 2-up, at dusk.
The worst part was when you stopped sliding and realized you were laying in the middle of the fast lane at dusk. I remember looking for grass and crawling quickly towards it with my head spinning... Both helmets had deep scrapes running diagonally from the chin to the top of the helmet. If you were to get knocked-out (not wearing a helmet) and survived, you'd most likely get killed by traffic running you over. I cringe every time I see cyclists on the Interstate without gear, and that's almost all the time around here. I was surprised how long it took for someone to stop and ask if we needed help. Eventually someone gave my wife a ride to the hospital. The forks were bent on my new Ninja 750 and fairings missing, but no leaking, so I rode it. It was totalled though. A Sheriff stopped after my wife left and I asked if he could show me the way to the hospital where they took her - he said no. EDIT: Sorry - didn't realize this was a video thread, I thought it was just a discussion of what we have encountered |

^, thankfully so far only small animals here too. Near miss with a bear and had 3 draft horses pulling a plow run into my bus when I was in middle school. Ran over your usual critters: squirrels, turtles, cats, snakes.. etc. I always contemplate what I would do if I had to react to hitting a deer. Do you duck down and hope he jumps over you, if he doesn't make it your going to probably break your neck running head on into him? Try to lay the bike down and just take that damage instead, usually you don't have much time to react to a deer in your path?
