Took the clutch cable from the 300 and put it on the 250. Found out that the adjustment knob is rather sharp and likes to eat clutch cables as I was putting on the new clutch cable because it started to shred that too. Took the knob from the 300 as well and I think it's all good now. I'll go pick up some grease for it later.

Found out that my mechanic did not tighten my left swing arm back cover on correctly, and it has subsequently been hitting the rear sprocket, causing it to get completely chunkered up and bending the screw that holds the back cover on.

Got it back on the road! Finished up everything that needed work (brake pads, brake lines, lower cowling, cush drive, rear alignment, chain, plus more) and took her out for a spin!

Missed all group rides since I was more tired after hiking than I thought I would be, but still went riding. Clutch cable is still good I should get extra batteries or something to keep the cameras going.

Finally removed all the rim tape that my bike came with. Got both rims all prepped for new rim tape, but when I opened the envelope containing the rim tape, I found that I had been sent the wrong color. I should've checked earlier but I forgot.

Rode it up and down skaggs rd. via Hwy 1 for a nice 400 mile day. On the way to the ride I set a new record for most miles on a single tank of gas with 260mile, and during the ride I avg 57.7 mpg which is also a new personal best

Put the head and barrel back on Thursday night, left it until yesterday before turning over to do the crankcase, all good, new timing chain and tranny bearings. Flipped engine back over to install camshafts. found four stripped bolt holes, two on exhaust side, two on inlet side. I was only using a 1/4" drive torque wrench, was less than halfway to torque setting, not happy to say the least. I don't know who worked on this bike previously, but my guess is they did some pretty dodgy work, I see three bolts have been cut with a grinder, WTF.

Rode tam and tomales. Got really annoyed with cars who refuse to use turn-offs. Went to the dealer because the ignition only has one bolt in it and was giving me issues today. Was told a half hour and it ended up being 3 hours because the mechanic messed up and had to drill the bolts back out. At least I didn't pay for anything other than the first set of bolts...

Over past two weeks, I rode from Terrell (near Dallas) to Houston. Then Houston to New Orleans (for work). Took a side trip from NOLA to Venice LA. Then back home, NOLA to Terrell. Bike ran great. But got terrible gas mileage on I-49 running an indicated 85 mph. Just wanted to get home. Got about 38 mpg with the high speed run, but "Beezer"
did not burn any oil. About 1250 miles total. Very, very comfortable bike once I added the Corbin seat and Throttlemeister. |

Today...
Put a hundred miles up on it, over the most dangerous road in the UK (Which when biker death/injury stats are taken off becomes one of the safest roads...) & even managed to repeatedly lose a DB9 in the corners (****er was quick enough to catch up in the straights, just in time for me to tip it into the next corner ) |

Inspected valves at 30k and no adjustments needed, last inpection was at 20k.
Changes oil, cleaned air filter and changed coolant. Made an auxiliary fuel tank to run the bike without a tank so I can sync my carbs. Currently watching Cameron install his cams after adjusting his valve shims. |

Started the day off right with a wash and wax. Decided to grab the latest tag marker for phototag on another forum. Wound up with fuel line issues that were sadly non-fixable roadside.
Upon pulling the loosened hose off to replace the clamp, I discovered the interior was deteriorated and clogged. Thanking the bike gods this was after track day and not at the track.

I rode a lot. Thought I was going to get a speeding ticket but didn't (rider in front of me got it unfortunately). Watched the Ninja 250 rider 2 places in front of me crash and barely avoided running into that. Luckily he only had a few scrapes and his bike was still working so he could finish the ride. It was a long day and I'm tired.

Discovered I've misplaced my 1/2" - 3/8" converter & 5mm Allen key in the last move, brake pads are not being changed now
Instead of that I took it out on the same road as yesterday, turned it over 26k miles & almost upended myself on a 12% downhill 90° right hand turn when something solid dragged (presuming a peg, but i've scraped pegs before & it didn't upset the bike) Last futzed with by Whiskey; July 7th, 2013 at 02:53 PM. |

I've had motorcycles before, and I love to ride! but this little bike is just too much fun !!! Today I rode her from SDSU to La Mesa, then took the long way home through town and ended up coming back on reserve ! It was a good day |

Ripped on Highland Valley Road twice.
Cleaned and lubed the chain. Cleaning is a breeze, assuming I do it on a semi-acceptable interval before months of dirt/grit accumulate on it. |

Installed rear Cowl, ASV C5 levers, and Moth racing rearsets. Out of curiosity for those that bought the moth rarsets (from the bohemian group buy last year) how do you like them? and how well are they holding up?

Spent a little time on it tonight, sorted out the cam bolts problem, got away without having to use helicoils, that would have been rather tricky. Got engine assembled, waiting now to get starter in to wind engine over to pump oil through all the canals.
Then will be on to valve clearances and put engine back into bike. Jeez, day shift sucks. |

Progress at last, starter motor is in, wound engine over to get oil through all the canals, used multimeter on oil light switch, light goes out indicating sufficient oil pressure. Put airbox/carb rubber boots onto carbs to hopefully minimise hassle with installation.
Day shift is finished, three days off before night shift, so engine goes in tomorrow. |

I rode her to work and home. Then I picked up the top of the air box from the dealer, and the gasket...as the original top had been slightly tweaked and kinda glued back together with silicone caulking, and the gasket was missing.
I also cleaned and oiled the air filter... I gotta do something about the rust i see in the fuel tank |

If the rust isnt too bad, you can empty it and ospho and reline
If its real bad then you'll have electrolysis or use your dryer first.

Started the little "Ninjette" up, runs ok, much quieter that before pulling the engine out. Job started as a cam chain and guides replacement, I had allocated three days for it. As time went on, I started looking to replace more parts, simply because I would have the engine open. This turned sour when I found the pistons were .50mm oversize, meaning the standard pistons and rings I bought before starting the job were of no use. Ordered new O/S pistons but three weeks later they are not looking like turning up any time soon. Back to plan A, new cam chain, guides and transmission bearings. All good, I hope. haven't ridden it yet, maybe tomorrow if I get a chance. Last futzed with by baxtc1; July 10th, 2013 at 03:06 AM. Reason: Added info. |
