My parents told me today that when I was in the hospital and on the IV pain meds that I was the most incoherent person ever. I would be talking to them, then fall asleep, then wake up and continue where I had left off. I would take a drink of water, then fall asleep with it in my hands, then wake up finish taking a drink and put it back on the table. The funny thing is as ****ed up as I was on those pain meds, the pain in my leg was still so severe. I was nervous about getting off the IV so they left it in giving no dosage unless I hit my pain button, and started giving me percocet.

Next day I had them take it out and switched to just percocet and my parents said the difference in me was remarkable. I could have a full conversation with them an everything haha. Thing is I didn't feel that different with the IV in or out. I felt like I was acting the same, funny stuff

Just spent 45 minutes reading this entire thread. My leg started hurting just reading about your femur and the pins. The "didn't you see me" pissed off my wife and I. I hope you get better and get back on two wheels.

-On a side note- This thread is making me want to up my insurance. Only have 50/100 right now.

Dude it doesn't even cost that much more to up it. I'm going to change mine to 500k/1mil Should be like an extra $100 a year or so for all 3 bikes. Make sure you get uninsured/underinsured

No idea. Haven't had alot of contact with the lawyer. I gave them the police report number today. They are also going to take care of my disability. Most likely I'll be out of work until I can comfortably stand for 9 hours like I need to at work. I'm not sure if they would let me come back while on crutches or using a cane. So yea no idea. Apparently, my sisters lawyer was able to knock down a bunch of her medical bills by negotiating with the hospital so I'm going to ask them to do that as well.

I have no idea what I should expect to get though. Is it going to be enough to cover all the bills? Or will it be more and I'll have enough to pay off my student loans? Really have no clue

This is probably a "duh", but do expect the settlement/payout to take a while. It took me six months to get my settlement from the one accident I was in and that included zero medical bills. Peter just now got the final settlement check from his minor injury accident last July.

Keep a file on your computer of every time you talk to anyone even remotely related to the accident (lawyer, insurance company, etc) and include the date, time, and person's name.

It is the mandate that ERs provide care to anyone that can come in, ability to pay or not, that causes this sliding scale to hit those who can afford it harder, even if that ability is just an insurance policy. It punishes the responsible to reward the irresponsible, or clever like me. I only have motorcycle insurance which includes medical (for any accident even if its not on a motorcycle, even if I am a pedestrian hit by a car). I do this because my normal health care is provided by the indian tribal clinic (read casino profits pay for it). I do not need to buy insurance for normal things. If I were at my reservation I could get some of the best care in the country free of charge (to me, again they charge whitey who loses at the casinos ) but the local one is an inferior hospital who cant even x-ray anything but teeth or do any casts.
I should look into that. I don't actually pay for insurance because I can go to Indian Health or VA but it would nice to have for emergencies.

The mistake Jiggles made was to hire a lawyer immediately. That delays the claim. The best thing to do is delay hiring a lawyer as long as possible. Now that Jiggles has hired a lawyer, he has to pay his medical bills out of the settlement. If he had waited, his health insurance would have picked up the tab. Not only that, but any offer the insurance company makes prior to hiring a lawyer is not subject to the 33%. And with a broken femur and video of the accident and audio of the callous remarks of the b!tch, there are few insurance companies that wouldn't have settled with him in a week or two for the full policy limits. Juries eat that stuff up and they know it.

But with a lawyer mucking things up this early, expect it to take years. Then they take 33% off the top and you have to pay your medical bills out of what's left. Meanwhile, the hospital socks your credit rating for not paying the huge bills.

Not only that, but it isn't really 33%. Its 33% plus expenses. Things like $2/page photocopies. $10/minute cell phone calls. $5/page faxes. Depending on the lawyer, the expenses can add up to 50% real easy.

In any accident, its ALWAYS best to give the insurance company a chance to make things right. That doesn't mean they will, but if they do, its MUCH faster. Weeks vs. years....

My girl was in a rollover two years ago, her knee is all ****ered up because of it. Her lawyer talked the hospital down from 16k to somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.5k? So definitely have your lawyer look into that.

Guys, I'm losing my mind here, I'm so utterly bored. I'm so goddamn bored that I actually ordered that book that @gfloyd2002 recommended. I hate reading books. And for some reason I have zero interest in playing any video games. I don't really play many but even the one I was addicted to before the accident, I just don't feel like playing it. This is so ****ing lame. I ordered a wheel chair and I can't wait for it to get here so at least I can leave the house and go wheelie down the street or something. I'd really like to go back to work and school or just ride my damn motorcycle

Good news though, I changed my underwear without any help last night. And this morning I put my socks on all by myself. Took me around 6 or 7 minutes to do it and without the convenient backscratcher that was next to me I wouldn't have been able to

Dont you have one in your garage? Maybe you can find a way to repair that one and put a new battery in it and ride it around.

I'm sure you could rig up some kind of platform type thing. Could be fun. Use the wheel chair for short distances and use this thing to get you to subway. Haha.

Feels good to be exempt from Obamacare right?
The one here is the same, but if you need something that they can't provide you can get a referral. For instance I went to the ER for this but Indian Health is still covering the tab, I might have a small copay but nothing bad.
