Snow blows. (Yes, pun intended). Biking in it can be kinda fun though. You learn lots about sliding and weight transfer and whatnot.

Took it for a spin while the weather got warm enough for a day, slid out on a pile of salt. The only damages being a bent brake handle and a bruised ego haha

Turned down the shaft of my 'universal' bar weights so I can use them with my WC bars. I've had them almost 2 years and am just now getting around to this. I also took the time to cut away some material from one of them and leave a little step. It will sit flush with the handlebar, but will have some extra space to make sure there is no contact with my throttle.
Universal my ass. |

In my defense, I just recently learned how to use the lathe and mill and plasma table. Next thing I'll be doing during finals week is make a tool to remove and replace the pivot bearings on my MTB. After that, I think I'll be brave enough to seriously attempt making my own emulators for my forks.

With temps in the 20's and a surprise waiting outside, decided to be a bit adventurous. LOL
Only adventured in a big u-turn on my street but I rode my bike in the snow. Go me. Hehehe

Rode the 500 to work today (after using the 250 to jump start it). Temp was around 30 degrees, I think. I was wearing my A*s mesh jacket, with my cycling wind shell underneath.
Promptly ordered a real cold weather jacket upon arriving at work. Also, I think the 500 has something wrong with its choke. Pulling the lever doesn't make any perceptible difference, and it's very difficult to start in cold weather, which seems to be getting worse. |

Edit: I had that problem with a car once. I was lucky to be at work at the time, so I jump started it with a company vehicle and drove it home, and then forgot about it. The next time I had to go somewhere was like two days later, and it wouldn't start, so I walked about a mile to the nearest Vatozone, bought a replacement battery, and carried that sucker home in a backpack. Luckily, the car in question was a Toyota MR2 Spyder, so the battery was only a couple sizes up from a motorcycle battery anyway. I pity the fool who has this happen with a diesel pickup truck. |

It'd probably been sitting for a few days or a week.
I hadn't considered Seafoam; maybe I'll give that a shot before I do the carbs. Overhauling the carbs looks like a pain in the neck, although I sort of want to do it just so I know when it was last done. |

I would put about a 1/4 can in with a full tank of fuel and run it a few times..Either sitting or riding. Do this a few times and see if that cleans it out. Don't be alarmed if it smokes from the exhaust. Good Luck.

Somehow, I feel like I probably still have a carb cleaning in my future. Edit: I love that green color. I have a buddy with one of those double bubble things on his SV1000S. He says it makes a huge difference; I wish they made one for the 500. |

I had to do that to my 250 when I bought it cause it would only run on choke and it's not much fun. Kawi green is my favorite..just would'nt feel like a Kawi to me if it were anything else..lol. I'm gonna see tonight how much improvement I get from the Dub Bub on my way to work. Been chilly so I hope it get the airflow off my chest.

I'll mess with it this evening. I have a couple of things I want to check on it before I pull the carbs out, as the carb kit for the '06 to '09 Ninja 500R is like, unobtanium for some reason, and I'd just as soon not have to order all the little seals piecemeal from the dealer. |

I came back out after dinner, prepared to pull the carbs out in preparation for cleaning. I took the fuel tank off and set it aside. Before I took the carbs off, though, I took the opportunity to fiddle with the carbs, and noticed that there was a wiring harness suspiciously close to the end of choke linkage. Fiddling with the choke lever confirmed that it was in the way, preventing the choke linkage from pulling all the way. I snipped off the zip ties holding it there, and zip tied it to the frame, out of the way. I then put the key in and hit the starter... ...And lo and behold, it starts right up, and idles at about 2000! Now I'm inside, not breathing hydrocarbons. |
