The Bajaj XCD gives a claimed 108 kmpl. that's like 250 mpg

dealing with ninja 250 criticism

Hey guys. I was just wondering if you guys get criticized for riding a little old 250 motorcycle. I do, and I did even before I bought the bike when I told people at work and what not what kind of bike I wanted. "a 250? lol" "it looks like a scooter" "a scooter with a motorcycle kit" "the back wheel looks tiny" etc. etc. I'm at a bigger disadvantage because i have the "old, ugly" 250. Personally I like the 80's, 90's sport bike look as much as the new. It was annoying at first but then I realized that the only people really teasing me where people who don't own or ride motorcycles. Every person who actually own motorcycles and ride are respectful.

haters.

ALL THE TIME!

Don't worry about it, I get the piss taken all the time, "get a gizzer", "you strugle on that thing?", "get a real bike", "that's nice for a small bike, but what you really want is a gixxer", "you'll get tired of it and want more power, get a gixxer and you'll be happy", "250cc bikes are dangerous, you just don't have the power to avoid accidents", "your bike's quiet, it sounds more like a scooter", "get a real bike", "you can't tour on that!", "you can't ride that on a motorway!", "nice bike, what's that a 600?! A 250?! I guess they have to make the **** bikes look better or nobody would buy them" are but a few i've had.

It's a mark of character to ignore them, smile and shrug them off.

Generally "65mpg" shuts them up for me. Or a simple "f*ck right off". The beauty of the ninjette is that it does its job perfectly without overcompensating.

People ask me why I didn't get a 600 and I tell them "I don't need one".

A lady the other day at work wouldn't believe that it was a 250. I was like seriously... it really is... I swear...

Also EVERYONE I know is like "you should take me for a ride". A simple "No" is what they usually get. If they persist I try to explain that number 1, I'm not comfortable enough as a rider yet to ride 2up. Number 2, even if I was, I don't have gear for them. I'm not about to get sued by someones family because they decided they didn't want to wear gear. If I wear it, you're wearing it as a passenger as well.

Also: I get the impression these bikes eat through chains, clutches and tyres slower than 600CC sport bikes do.

Everyone i ride with all have bigger liter bikes and they make fun of me having a 250 all the time. Then we hit the canyon twisties and somehow i get so far ahead that i have to stop and wait for them. I never get tired of seeing their faces after that lol. These 250's can carry so much retarded corner speed that i rarely have to brake lol! These 250's will teach you more technique on two wheels than a bigger bike will any day. Just because they have more power doesn't make them superior.

I believe it's a incentive to lean harder in turn to get rid of your chicken strips, and if the word is still there then you aren't leaning enough.

Well so I was laughing at a thread talking about chicken strips, yes another term I'd had never heard before in my 7 years of professional racing I'd since mounted 120 & 150 race tires on my bike since I get a smoking deal through past sponsors. As you may know larger tires are folded more on narrow rims and are harder remove said chicken strips. After a few group rides at a fairly spirited pace I still had around an inch of untouched rubber. I though when I went to the races I would get it a bit lower, not all the way but lower since I never got low enough to drag knee on the street(I could care less). So as a joke I wrote it on my tire myself before heading down to chuckwalla, I figured someone would get good laugh at it. Problem was I never drag knee even at a race track and never really have so I had been getting the just as leaned on the street as the track just some random fun and just think of all the money I've saved on replacement knee pucks

hahaha that's awesome! And why drag knee when you don't have to, right? And people that do it on the street really irk me. There is no need to be ridding that agressive on public roads. I mean we've seen how many of those crash videos now? Ridding like you're on a track, on public roads is just never a good idea!

Yeah there's two reasons I don't ride for fun alone
1st I think it's a bit dangerous to not have anyone backing you up.
2nd it gives me someone to ether follow or wait up for because left on my own.....well I only have one speed group rides keep me safe

Good points! and yeah, we need to keep you safe! haha Though I imagine a group ride with a bunch of people that have your same ridding style wouldn't help much Need to have a sort of yin/yang to them!

First ever group ride

Ride leader: nice bike very clean, is it a 250?
Me: Yeah I just picked it up not long ago
RL: is this your first group ride?
Me: yes
RL: Don't worry if you get left behind because each group has a sweep
Me: Cool thanks

I had a blast that day

I was at the Motorcycle show yesterday in Minneapolis, looking at the Ninja 300.

One of the Kawasaki guys was talking to me and I said I was riding a 2003 250 and I was looking at what I want for my next bike. He was trying to convince me to get a Ninja 650 because "I'll want more power".

Shakes head. I want a 300 SE

My favorite stupid comment came from an acquaintance (who started on an R6, now rides a GSXR750) during a ride. During the ride, we went up this long curvy hill that must be about 1.5 miles and averages about a 15% grade. We get back home, and I said, "I didn't remember how steep that hill is" and he said, "I didn't realize a 250 could even make it up that hill."

Facepalm.

Stopped at a gas station on my FREEZING ride I took tonight. As I'm getting off my bike I notice that all of the gas station attendants are staring out the window. I was like okay... But I figured they were just staring because it's like 12 degrees out.

Walk inside and the one dude goes

Gas Station Kid"Hey you live on Manor Street?"
Me "No..."
Gas Station Kid"O man... I was just telling these guys that some dude on my street has a completely stripped green ZR6 for sale, and then you come pulling in on a completely stripped ZR6!"
Me "Haha... nope not me..."
Gas Station Kid"Yeah... you're still crazy though!!!"

So can anyone tell me what a "completely stripped ZR6" is? lolol

And a kid from Ryan's mom's work came to dinner the other night

Him "Yo! Is that the new 600!?!?!"
Me "Nah, it's the 2012 250"
Him "O yeah, that's cool though... that's injected right?"
Me "Nope, still has carbs"
Him"Oh.."
Me "The new 300 is injected though, maybe that's what you're thinking of?"
Him "O yeah. I told my brother they made a 300... *mumbles* jack ass"

A while back I went out on the girlfriend's Monstered out 250. I came across a group of 4 young riders. They were riding a 600, a 1000, a 750, and the youngest, smallest, and loudest of the group was on a 250.
I took a look at his horribly rashed up (both sides) 250 with a slip on, and with the first 5 words out of his mouth I knew he was a douche. "I hate this damn bike."
The kid bashed his 250 for a while and I just nodded my head as I listened to him try to make himself look cool in front of his buddies. He basically talked about how he didn't like skinny tires and the bike didn't have an idiotic top speed. So I asked "what about the cornering abilities?" It took a minute and he finally said "who rides a bike to corner?"
I went on to say I chose the 250 because it was cheap, cheap to mod, decent MPG's, handling potential was great, and a common sense choice to anyone on a budget, learning to ride, or any offroad rider testing the waters.
The kid replies "I can barely wheelie it." Then as he left he decided to make a show of it so he stand's straight up on the seat and then slipped off. Barely landed with one hand on the bar and his thigh on the seat and swerved across 4 lanes before regaining control.
His buddies, however, complimented my bike and said they wish they had learned on a 250 and proceeded to show me the rash on their very clean bikes.
I learned a ton in those minutes about the different reasons why guys ride. Some do it for thrills, some do it for passion, some just to look cool. I learned quickly who to stay away from and who to hang with when riding.

I got one...

Out of many, but this only really takes the cake..

One fine morning as I was on my way to work, I came upto an intersection where I had to slow down behind a cop car to allow a car in front of him to cross to the other side. As soon as I did so I felt a thud from behind along with the sound of breaking plastic. I just grabbed on with all my might to avoid dropping my bike. I turned around only to find two guys on a 100cc scooter without even a single safety gear on, had just crashed into me. I had seen this @ss before as he keeps trying to taunt me to race him every time he sees me all because I once accidentally overtook him at night on my way home :|

So I parked my bike on the side and asked him what was wrong with him
His arguments were very annoying to say the least especially one of them being me not paying attention to my rear view mirrors when I'm stopping. The entire drama went on for some time and eventually I asked him what his deal was?. Why was it that every time he saw me, he always felt the need to race me, to which he responds, "You don't have riding skills but I do so I race... " :faceplam:

He also said I don't deserve to own such a bike... lol

So I figured it was not really worth my time arguing and left Valentino Rossi with his scooter...
