Static Drop in the Driveway
:roll eyes:
MSF 101: Helmet, gloves, sitting on the bike. Start 'er up. Me: Helmet, gloves, "oh I'll just warm 'er up while I'm doing my safety check. "Whoa. It was in first gear. I'm gonna drop ... oh. d%$#!" Yes. MSF 101. Sometimes the universe tells you when not to ride. Had all the right reasons to go out. PSIs low, go get some air in the tires, change the shield it's getting dark, and then blam! Dropped it right in the driveway. Couldn't pick it up. Tried all those YouTube videos for how to pick up your dropped sport bike. Couldn't get it. Had to call somebody for help. Picked it up, I think the clutch spun a bit because it felt like a stretch to when I was checking it out. I guess I'll see in the light tomorrow what the damage is, probably just a few scratches. What is the correct safety protocol after something like that? Just check that parts aren't falling off and such? Arrrghhh... can't believe I did that! Safety wired the oil filter. It took me a couple days to find my needle nose pliers (for bending the free end into a loop, not for the bulk of the work)

But you might want to check the safety switches, it shouldn't have started if they were all working, here's some homework for you. http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Underst...afety_switches http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/My_side...27t_work_right http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Checkin..._safety_switch http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Cleanin..._clutch_switch Also how hard was it dropped? Was it a quick drop? Or slow motion trying to save it drop? Not for nothing, and take no offense, but does the neutral light work? And most important don't sweat it, everyone has done it, just learn from it, and go on and enjoy the bike.

Also racers do this, sometimes due to the racing rules depending on association, and/or track. I had the specialty tool years ago that made safety wiring easier.

I took it as a clue that as the day was waning, so was I, and so I stayed home (that and I couldn't get it off the ground until my friend arrived about an hour later). D'oh. I'm going to run through those steps tomorrow to figure out what went wrong. As I said above, I wasn't my sharpest, so I may have started my old scooter when it was really my Ninja in front of me. And @wendyjboss... ouch. Poor thing looks quite dazed! Thanks for the compliment on my bike's name btw - I really like it too! It'll be on her custom plate when the DMV ever get around to sending it... As for me - Hurricane had her 600-mile service today. At... around 750 miles, whoops. I put quite a lot on her before I was able to bring her in, even though I booked the service a while back... the dealership is really booked up right now. After that, took her for a ride up the Pacific Coast Highway... need to remember to bring earplugs the next time I do that. I've never had a problem with wind noise before, but it was brutal out there. So it was slightly less fun than it could've been because my head was ringing (and also the gear shop I wanted to check out seems to now be an empty dirt lot), but I'll know for next time.

I use the harbor freight version for most of it. Worth fewer pennies, but it's good enough for me.

Right on. My initial post was just 'What I did to my Ninjette today', and the follow on was aimed only at the 'what is safety wiring' question. Apologies if that got muddled given the other more important questions being asked (and not addressed by me).

Yes, my ZX10 is Mantis. Our 250 is Toothless (when I pulled all of the fairings to paint her, the nose alone without the windscreen looked like toothless from how to train your Dragon. Wifey named her new 300 Fritzenhimer... I don't know why...

Took track day "B group" sticker goo off of windscreen. Pro tip: put masking tape down first, then put sticker over masking tape.

Put rim tape from customtaylor33 on her! And some sparklies on her face.
Pretty easy to apply even though I'd never done it before. I didn't need an applicator. Looks good I think.

today I am still waiting for my replacement lever bolt to come in, I was supposed to be here 3 days ago. Some how it got lost in the mail, so I am fighting with the seller currently. Just ordered another one from a different seller to save the hassle. So she sits... like she has all week
