Prior to this i only wear jeans and mesh jacket to work.
After getting myself a two piece from Rev'It! I wear those if I ride my ninjette to work. People looked at me with this strange looks when I'm in the elevator, but hey, my knee sliders did the talking!

I vote for "STICKY" also! I don't feel safe without all my gear. I have Kevlar Jeans but don't fell they are enough--after reading some of the info above, I now know they are not even close to enough!
I would also like to comment on how bad the American attitude is towards people wearing full gear! I have had people make comments when I took a ride in my full leathers just to try them before my first track trip ever. Pull up next to the average cruiser guy in Connecticut (no helmet law) in Full one piece leather, Boots, studded Gauntlet gloves and helmet and they laugh! He was wearing T-shirt, Jeans and low cut boots! No Gloves and no Helmet, just sun glasses and I'm the one that deserves ridicule? |

It's pretty common to be ridiculed for doing things the smart/safe/correct way. I think it's because the person doing the ridiculing is insecure. Seeing someone doing it right when they don't makes them feel bad about themselves and they deflect those feelings by trying to make the other person feel bad.

Years ago (mid-90s) I had a bright red Aerostich Roadcrafter suit with some additional hi-viz patches sewn to it. I was walking from the town garage to the office one morning when a young urban male walking the other way said, "Hey, Power Ranger!"
He was wearing a a ball cap sideways, baggy jeans with the crotch at his knees and the cuffs dragging on the ground, a too-big jacket pulled off his shoulders and halfway down his arms, and brand-new sneakers with laces and tongue I can only describe as "aggressively" untied. Looking at that costume, I realized that my bright-red getup didn't look silly at all by comparison. I've never felt embarrassed by gear since. Rock the gear and don't give a crap what anyone else thinks.

Yeah, I feel weird without my gear. I'll go the block to the gas station near the house without my gloves, since putting in the credit card and pumping gas is significantly easier without them, but damn if it doesn't feel just strange and I'm glad to finish and put my gloves on.
Even in Montana, where helmets were optional, we always wore them. Maybe people thought we were silly, but whatever. I don't care. You feel safer in leathers? Good for you. Wear it. |
