He hasn't mentioned RA this weekend. Luckily he can skip out during the week at times and do a RA track day. I'm sure you will cross paths with him eventually. His name is Kevin and you know his CRF and gear. I'll tell him to look out for a fast guy on a Z125 passing on the outside! |

Haha I'm not that fast anymore, Haven't been on a race bike since 2016. But if I see a crf150R with skid marks from a 450, I'll say hi.

Running a track day at RA today (Wednesday) - must be nice!
My boss would never let me take a day off in the middle of the week to play at the track - and I'm self employed! |

Anyone have an idea of a good lap time at the RA Supermoto track?
My son said he was running 0:59 laps on a clear track yesterday, and was passing 450s. He was pumped. Only thing on the track faster was a 125cc 2-stroke shifter kart, and it wasn't much. Time to enter some races and get some real perspective. The 150 is starting to chew-up its bottom end bearings, so a new crank is on the list before next season. Surprisingly it's still running strong, but its days are numbered. |

Current state of the CRF's engine -
Ready to install a new crank and high compression piston. Cam and bore look great. Crank replacement is more preventative maintenance considering how the engine was/wasn't taken care of before we got it. If you wait too long you'll end up with a hole in the cases. I'm impressed with these little engines. It spends most of it's time at the track near the rev limiter, and after a season of trackdays shows almost no wear on the internals. Probably could have gone another season without much of anything. My son is designing a velocity stack for the carb to have 3D printed. The airbox looks like a big compromise, as it has a stiff rubber boot that jogs awkwardly around the shock spring and makes jetting changes difficult. So far so good... |

Finished assembling the bottom-end this weekend -
Just need the high compression piston assy and we should be able to button it up. |

Got it back together and in the frame this weekend.
Fired right up and ran decent. Took it for a little spin in the neighborhood. My son is designing a tuned velocity stack to replace the air box, and there will be some tuning to do when that's fitted. |

My son had the CRF150R out on the USAir track in Shawano, WI, yesterday, and he said it was stronger than ever with the high compression piston and rebuild. More low-end pull and lifted the front where it didn't before. New Bridgestone slicks as well, but the track was pretty green and a bit slippery in spots. Lap times were 2 seconds quicker than last time out in the fall and under the times for the last race winner.
That's the good news. The bad news is he chopped a corner too tight, caught the peg on the curb, lifted the rear and low-sided. No big deal except his leg got caught and twisted significantly, which led to a trip to the local ER. Now back at our house waiting to get an appointment with the Ortho Doc. Pretty sore all over. That leg already has a plate in it, and he may need more work. But the bike isn't too bad.... Last futzed with by jkv45; May 4th, 2020 at 09:29 AM. |

The 150R (front) and 450R before the incident -
I haven't had a chance to look over the 150, as it's back at his house, but he said there wasn't much damage. Gotta love Supermotos that way! |

On my old CRF450 I had replaceable puck sliders on the axles. They had the main aluminum assemblies and the delrin inserts. I bought the inserts in a six pack and they were easily replaceable. Up on the handlebars it was just a protective Moose racing metal bar. That thing was the most crashable bike there ever was. I could pretty much lay it down and laugh about it.

Sample of the USAIR wicked curbs from one of my videos.
And then a sample of what I wish all track curbs looked like.
