i already had about 2 grand saved for a bike, then i lucked out because where i live there is a place that researches drugs that are waiting to be approved by the FDA for production and sale. I made 3 grand by staying there for three nights, all on three separate occasions. and i tested a low dose of a drug that was meant for people with an overactive bladder to see if it had any side effects. i had 5 grand saved for my bike, which was good because i spent 2800 on it, and i had plenty left over for licensing, registration, insurance, and gear. make sure you save enough for all of that! dont buy a bike if you can't afford to properly gear yourself, and insure it.

Also keep in mind that you don't want to make a huge investment into something that you may decide isn't for you down the road. Motorcycling is a very expensive hobby and it isn't for everyone.
Too many Harley's end up as garage ornaments due to people getting the bug and deciding that they don't like riding. Don't be like those people where your stuck with heavy payments for years with a toy that is never used. It may be better to get a dirt cheap entry level bike to test the waters and decide whether you really want to get involved in this sport. The 250 is a great bike in that sense but the prior gen models can probably be found much much cheaper.

It took my a good while since I am a college student working a Min Wage job. Im not sure exactly how long tho. I basically sold a lot of stuff to help with it though. If you were like me and haven't purchases a vehicle on your own, there are a lot of extra things that add up. For example, After you buy the bike you will have tax, plates, notary fee. Then your insurance for 2 months in advance. Then riding gear. Once you get enough for everything.. You will be pleased with your purchase
