I wear an Icon perferated leather jacket and jeans when I ride. I've ridden in 100 degree humid heat before and i just unzip my jacket and pull down my shirt to air out. It works pretty well!

The vest is thin, maybe 1/4" added on, all the way around. The packs that go in the inserts are about a 1 1/4" thick. So with all four (2 front, 2 rear) it adds on a bit around you. That said, mine's tight without the vest on... and tight with it on. I had to loosen the side straps a little, but not much. Evidently fat compresses...

If you can slip 4 paperback books under your jacket, that's about the size of the packs in front. If you can fit 4 more in the back, you can slip all 4 in.
