Progress report!

My baby turned 10000 today

I didn't realize how much I ride until today. I got my bike at the end of July with 2 miles, then she was out for 2 months getting repaired , so I've pretty much put 10000 miles on my bike in 4 months.

@jdoucet93 & @sombo: you guys ride a lot! I've ridden a small fraction of that since I got my bike. I usually use it to get to work and back each day, but that's only a 5.5 mile trip: I'm probably going to switch to cycling to work as soon as I get a nice bicycle.

I'm right at 2600 for the year as of now. But I'm going on a little 400 mile trip this weekend. So we shall see!

I'm going to have to call it quits on the game in the middle of May though. I'm shipping out for basic training for the Air Force on May 15th. And between the 2 months at basic, 1 month for job courses, 6 weeks for survival training, then another 2 weeks for water survival training, I'll be off my bike for at least 5 months. And of course those 5 months are during the best part of riding season.

@sombo: I stared long and hard at the picture but couldn't figure out its relevance to me!

You enjoying your new bike? I bet you ride slower since you got that Harley. I have a theory: the further you lean a human forward the more they loose their instinctual feelings of self preservation. You take the average man and place him on a cruiser: he'll putter along happily enjoying the ride and taking in the scenery. Plonk that same man on a sports bike and you can observe a strange madness take a hold of him: his average speed will probably double, he'll brake later and corner closer to the traction limit of his bike. Give him a super sport and you'll observe him weaving in and out of highway traffic and leaving a trail of rubber in his wake. I think that's why land speed record bikes position the human laying practically flat on their belly: at this extreme angle all survival instincts are effectively disabled and the human is quite happy to accelerate hard up to speeds of more than 200MPH propelled by none-other than a rapid series of carefully timed explosions happening mere inches from their genitalia: an organ which in normal circumstances (at an upright angle) the male-human would guard with his life.

Just a thought

That's the relevance. Thursday I was at around 600miles on the bike and by Sunday morning I'm at 800miles. So, yah I do tend to ride a lot.

Actually I don't really go any slower on the HD than I did on the ninjette. I take some of the sharper turns a bit slower because of the reduced lean angle, but that's about it. I usually do about 5mph over the speed limit regardless of the vehicle. Even on the ninjette I was also more about the enjoyment of the ride than pushing it to the limit. I still zip in and out of traffic if it's moving too slow for my tastes. Some of the Orlando crew were witness to that on one bike night as I kept up with them on their sport bikes darting in and out of traffic. I haven't gone on the major highways yet since I haven't had a need to, so it hasn't been taken over 60mph yet. Not to mention that most times, I-4 is so backed up that you'll be going slower than on the side streets lol.

The HD Superlow Sportster won't be a good choice for canyon carving because of the low clearance and lean angle. However, in an urban environment it's rapid transitioning is ideal for zipping through traffic. With the low end torque it accelerates quickly with little effort. And with such a low center of balance, the pivot point on the bike for leaning is closer to the ground than even the ninjette making it feel extremely light and nimble for quick maneuvering.

So, I was thinking we could do a bit of a pro-rated kind of thing with the contest. For those people who are going to be starting later. And those of us that have to call it quits way before the end of the year.
I was thinking we could do it as an average of miles per month, or even miles per week or per day. Depending on when each person started /stopped playing.

Like, I would be at 42.7 miles/day so far.

Just a suggestion, I would totally understand if you guys wanted to keep it as a straight-up "See how many miles you can go within the year" kind of thing.

Maybe this is one thread where we can get along. I'm in with my 2011 CBR250R. Syracuse, NY 13066 USA rains and or snows 170 days / year and I never ride on ice so only get 9 months from March 15 to December 15. Notice the grip muffs. They make it very comfortable 30-40F which I will have in the mornings all next week. 100 miles so far for the year. Call it 5889.

There are always ways to cheat, this just makes it a bit harder... Like you said, it's just for bragging rights, not sure if anybody would go through the things you mentioned to cheat...

However, I wouldn't be opposed to some donations for a prize, that would be sweet. We can have overall mileage, highest average daily mileage, etc...

Numbers on the odo You see is about 2 years of riding thru polish roads together with winter (special pic attached ) with 2/3 week brake in january/feburary period. Damn snow under wheels and ice in cranckcase breather hose just ruin the day.
Odo reading by now is actualy around 60'077km but engine refused to work properly so the bike stands in garage far from were I'm now.

Old Guy. Yes, I'll definitely start a 2013 mileage thread. But we gotta finish 2012 first!

Ok, time to show your cards

I started the year with 836 miles on my 2012 Ninja 250, and ended with 13,367, for a total of 12,531 miles.

If you are reporting in from some exotic, foreign locale, please convert your distance into good ol' Amerikun **miles**. Don't want to see confusing, weird units like kilometers, alens, dongs, nautical miles, smoots, or wahs.

I didn't keep track this year but I end the year with a nice ride with a couple of others @DaBlue1 and @exploring/carolina (Blue and Bill) in the foothills of the Carolinas this afternoon.

I'm getting ready to climb aboard to get the first ride of the year in.

I'll have photo proof next year.
