So here are the numbers from turn 5

I'm recording from my braking marker on the 250 which is the #1 marker, to the red painted apex marker, to the start of the blue paint on the exiting rumble strip.

first the 250
Brake Point: 3:57:06
Apex Point: 3:59:46
Exit Point: 4:02:83

So first Half is 2.40
Second Half is 3.37
Total is 5.77

Now the 636
Brake Point: 9:55:75
Apex Point: 9:58:08
Exit Point: 10:01:16

So first Half is 2.33
Second Half is 3.08
Total is 5.41

Result is the 636 is 0.36sec faster "THROUGH" turn 5 and I'm still 9 seconds a lap slower then what I normally could do on a 600. Also of those 9 seconds at least 60% would be in the turns so 60% of 9 is 5.4seconds then you divide 5.4 by the # of actual turns 10 so that's .54 seconds per turn. Now you add the 0.54 to the original difference of 0.36 and you get 0.9seconds.

Now I'm not being entirely fair since I'm comparing my full blow racing R6 times to my totally street 250. I think in race trim I could shave off another 2-3 seconds but that only brings the difference between the two bike down to 0.6 seconds per turn.

So a 600SS is 0.25 seconds better on the brakes to the apex and 0.35 seconds faster through the turn.

Now go take a break away from your computer because I think your brain may be over heating

I'm totally bummed out. I now hear the 250 isn't the fastest in the corners. My ego is deflated, my self esteem wiped out, my enthusiasm squashed beyond repair. How could this be?

At least now when I go to the track on a 1000 I don't have to fear the 250. Not even in corners. I will press on, I will out brake and pass those little 1/4 liters in the corners and power out of turns like the big boys.

So your actual question is if you are ready to do NRS ?

i asked the same question before doing my NRS. You would really have to ride amongst some good 250 riders & instructors to gauge where you are at. Passing a slow 600 or parker litre bike in a corner, will give you the satisfaction but down the line you are not achieving anything.

Passing NRS is easy. Doesnt matter which group you ride in, A or B. The instructor looks for consistency in your lines, abilities to pass slower riders and turn-in. The classroom session are boring yet a good learning. End of the day test is very simple. The only other requirement is "You should not crash the entire day or performing starts"

Over a year i learnt racing is not just going fast. You can be fast yet crash out in the last lap. I did that, lost 2 1st positions. A lot of environment scan is going on and veterans and skilled racers learn others moves and take actions based on that.

IMO, you should get more tracktime before attempting NRS. 2:17 at Sonoma is bit slow. If you are riding with Z2 get hold of Eric or Mark who are the top 250 racers & instructors.

Racing is fun, yet expensive & risky. In all order you need to ensure you are getting the most benifit out of it.

We (Z2 Trackdays) also have Kirk Korenko on staff as an instructor as well as Lisa Kinberger. So we are very 250 friendly

Is the NRS difficult to pass? It would be ****ing badass to get a race license and I'd likely sign up for a couple races next year when I'm a little faster (the goal would be to not come in last ) The NRS class would be 1 week after my 2 day track school at Laguna Seca with Keigwins so hopefully I'd have quite a bit of improvement in my riding.

Should I go for it or sign up for a boring old regular trackday later in the year?
If it is the same one that is on 7/24 I will be there getting my NRS! GO DO IT! IT WILL BE AWESOME!

When you do pass the class don't pay for your license until you plan on using it. It only lasts a year so you might as well get the most out of your membership fee. You're eligible for a year I think after you pass the NRS.

Wesley get some experience in at AFM and come to Chuckwalla in October for CVMA. We're looking at a 30+ bike grid. Good times.
