Nitro Powered Speedway Bikes...

still wonder to this day why I never got myself into flat track or speedway bikes, but they were what got me into bikes.

Only the greatest animated bike scene ever!

Link to original page on YouTube.

I hear Leonardo DiCaprios production company is working on a live action movie. If this scene is not in it, it will SUCK!. Thats the bottom line.

My dad's buddy gave me a 1988 or 89 yellow yamaha pw80 when I was 7 and I rode the crap out of that thing! I would take it apart just to see how everything worked(nothing major) and just learned different things about the bike. Ever since then i have bought over 7 more dirtbike and a Ninja 250 and most recently my 2004 CBR600. Not too shabby for only being 18 and graduating with the class of 2010

for me its the same as a couple replies earlier, i was 12 and saw the scene in top gun where tom cruise is riding along the airstrip and a f-14 take off next to him and he shakes his fist at the plane and then take off after it, at that point i said "i wanna do that" and i got to sort of, i was riding along PCH and two chinook helicopters flew overhead really low to the ground so i took off after them so for a second i was riding with two chinooks, it was a cool feeling

There was never any defining moment for me that got me "hooked" to bikes (or cars). I have always loved vehicles. I have no explanation for it, it is just something that exists within me. Bikes, cars, heck, construction equipment for that matter. They are all fun to control. Maybe that's it, it's a man vs. machine type of thing. Becoming one with the bike or car or whatever and having it be an extension of your body, allowing you to do things you could never do by yourself.

Or maybe the vehicles control me and I am but a puppet pulled by the strings of my master.

Or maybe I'm just putting too much thought into this. Nah.

Well, gotta go ride my wife's TU250, I hear it calling me. Later.

Apparently we all ride motorcycles because of Toxoplasmosis. I just saw this article posted on bestbegginerbikers.org, another forum I frequent and I thought I would share.

But at the time I felt very cool 'cause I rode a 1984 model of that bike.

I played this arcade game at Peter Piper's Pizza in corpus christi TX from the age of 6-10
I loved this gam(cant recall the name) but it had a sportbike you actually sat on and leaned. That stuck with me until I reached the old age of 28 (last year) and bought my first bike. I miss that pizza place

My twin brother loved bikes, he bought a 600rr in 2008. After he died I got the bike, I was going to sell it but once I turned it on I fell in love with it.

My step dad had two hardcover books laid away in our enormous bookshelf. The one of interest that got me hooked was a book on the 1982 or 1983 motogp races if I can remember. It had all the greats in there the likes of Eddie Lawson, Freddie Spencer, Kenny Roberts, Etc... That book was amazing it showed the details of the 2 stroke chassis and engines. Anyways that was what got me interested initially.

i got hooked when i was about 7 maybe.. older kid in the neighborhood had a small atc, thinking maybe a little 70 or 110, know it was honda thats about it.. use to wait to see him riding that thing in the field near my house.. so from the age of 7 i dreamed of owning any bike possible and finally got a ATC 200x at around 13yrs old.. from there it continued with many dirt bikes and quads.. and later on around 20-21 with motorcycles. now 31 ive owned a few sport bikes and a harley with some on and off times in that 10 or so yrs but hopefully im back and will stay on one this time

My older brother, he used to give me rides on his bike ever since I was like 4. I always thought he was the coolest, and then he had his accident but that did not stop him now he is back in the saddle of a brand spanking old kawi 650. I guess its the freedom and cool factor that I saw in my brother that got me into bikes.

started riding old school kickstart Vespas at 12, progressed to 125-150cc bikes within a year or so, then at 19 I got my baby Ninja. It had been 5-6 years since I had ridden, but it was as if I never stopped.

i know these might look really dumb by today's standards, but growing up as a young kid in the 70's, this was the best!!!! so many superheroes rode bikes. hell, even their enemies rode bikes.
I watched the original Kamen Rider back in 1971.

Link to original page on YouTube.

I pedaled my bicycle since I was 4, it was my getaway from my crazy family. I rode my bicycle everywhere I went. Growing up on an island in the Pacific, majority of traffic were 2-wheel vehicles.

I can't recall exactly what got me interested in motorcycles as a small child but I remember getting a new HD scale model once every year. I have always been infatuated with motorcycles though for a while I had forgotten about that infatuation until my stepbrother rode down to visit us on his new gen blue ninja 250. I fell in love and decided to take the msf course and buy my own 250; now here I am .

My dad has been riding since right around 1990 when I was born. I've been riding on the back of his Harley's since I was about 3. I had always wanted a bike but could never afford one and couldn't convince my parents to let me get one. Here we are 17 years later, I'm now 20 and having finally gotten a full time job was able to afford my own bike. No more asking parents permission.

I also could no longer afford to drive my truck to and from work everyday. >$4 a gallon meant I was spending $150 a week on gas just driving to and from work.

After doing a bit of figuring I'm saving ~$150 a month with riding the bike to work instead of driving my truck. The monthly bike payment, Insurance payment, and a full month of gas on the bike is less than the cost of all my gas for a month in my truck.

I figured out what I could afford, and how much insurance and MSF would cost. I then started looking around at bikes and found the Ninjette. It was the cheapest bike I could find.

So I signed up for the MSF in April after having been told by my parents for 4 years that I couldn't get a bike.

a couple weeks before my MSF class I started looking around at local dealers to see what they had. I found my 2010 Metallic Island Blue Ninja 250R at a dealership that was going out of business. I gave them $200 cash that day to hold it for me for 2 weeks. I told them that if I passed the course I would be purchasing the bike. The day I passed I called and told them to get it ready, I'm coming the next day to pick it up.

Now I have 4 months and 2500 miles in and I'm loving every bit of it.

The first time I was on a bike I was like 7 or 8 and I was a passenger and it was a friend of my sister who was taking me for a ride and we were on a street bike but going down a field when we hit a hole and the bike crashed and landed on my leg and the muffler burnt me. Believe it or not after that first ride I wanted a bike and after riding dirt bikes and ATV's over the years I hit my midlife crisis and decided to get a sport bike. My last sport bike ride was a 1986 GPZ600 and yes the movie "Top Gun" gave me some motivation.

Summer 1973. I was a 9 year old red blooded American boy. The guy across the street bought a Triumph and his super hot hippie girlfriend would ride it around the neighborhood in a bikini top and cutoffs shorts. I swear when she rode by the sun beamed out of her like halos and the world moved in slow motion. I was hooked - I had to have me a girlfriend.

I got my first bike 38 years later. Some things just stick with you.
