I actually thought about this yesterday. which lead me to the question; Will my modulator work the same with an LED tail light replacement? And if so....Now which replacement should I choose? For me it should be one that utilizes the housings reflectors. Any advice/pics? Anyone?

Ill just go to Autozone and buy another Pair (2) of 1157's for $3.29!
Once 5 years go by, it'll Total $18.00 on bulbs. If I ever upgrade to LED taillight and rear turnsignals and front LED turn signals, then a light bulb like you mention, would be ideal. So till then... |

I don't run a 1157-R18-T bulb, I got one of their older 3W Luxeon bulbs a year ago and am very happy with the light output. The new 1157-R18-T is brighter and uses more reflector. That's what I would get now.

I'm looking to add the Whelen TIR3 Super LED that the cops use on their cars and motorcycles (as an additional to the brake light). These are 3rd gen LED technology and are super bright in daylight. Seems like they have the flasher integrated.

No reset period. When you OPEN the circuit to the brake light, it is ready to flash again. So, if you have both brakes applied and only release one of them, the circuit has NOT been opened.

Yup, once the brake light comes off, the next time you brake it will flash. I have mine continuously flashing, so it never stops. There is a small green wire that if you leave as is it does that 3 blinks and goes solid, but if cut it just blinks continuously when the brake is activated.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe I read there is a CA law re: brake light flashers that gives guidelines as to what is allowed..... My "no-cut" flasher flashes between 6-8x per activation (green loop NOT cut). IIRC, the CA code specified a maximum number of allowed flashes, 3x I THINK. I don't remember where I read this.
However, I have NEVER had this questioned by PD, or CHP about the flasher, and had both behind me (CHP for longer as he was writing me a love-note). One local PD, however, did question me about the headlight modulator, but he was not familiar with them or the Fed. law allowing them.

I am pleased with this product as well as it has served me well this past riding season, although there is one thing I was interested in changing; that is the flash speed/frequency of the modulator.
Does anyone know of any way to either reduce the number of flashes, or speed up the flash time to reduce the overall 'modulated time' of the brake light? At this point the modulator flashes 5 times, and my understanding is that if you cut the green wire, it doubles its flash frequency to 10 times. I am interested in making the modulator flash fewer times (2 or 3), or reduce time interval between flashed in order to reduce the overall modulated time. I wouldn't mind hacking up the cables in order to attach any electronic 'devices' (resistors, capacitors etc.) although I have just about zero knowledge regarding any actual electrical components (what they do and how they behave...). If anyone thinks it can be done, I am willing to try |

I downloaded the pdf but could not find the seller info and ebay does not have this listing either (obvious as it's been removed).
Could anyone post the seller's details so I can order from him directly? The pdf mentioned International Shipping so I'm hoping he can ship the device to me. I've gone through the posts and understand that it works with the filament bulbs.... but with LED's it makes for better visibility. Have i understood this correctly? If so, i need to order them LED bulbs too but doubtful if anyone will ship those all the way here. |

So what is the consensus here? It WILL work with filament bulbs but it shortens the bulbs life?

This is definitely a good safety feature to have along with the 2357 LL rear bulb.
Glad I bought one. What's the difference between a 1157 bulb and a 2357 LL? As far as brightness for normal operation...none. However when braking the 2357 bulb is brighter than the 1157 (40 candela vs 32). The LL simply means longer life. No problem with bulb life here. Works fine for filament bulbs, hasn't had any noticeable affect on bulb life.

I just ordered a universal one. I didn't really want to pay an extra $15 to save 10 minutes. Besides, I enjoy soldering . The nice thing about the one I ordered is that it has a delay for stop and go so it doesn't just flash every time you hit your brakes. http://www.3rdbrakeflasher.com/index...roducts_id=181

One thing I like about the no-cut though, is it can be easily removed, leaving no evedance if you sell your bike (although you should never sell your bike).

Well, for $20, I doubt I'd remove it when I sell the bike. It would probably be an added incentive for the next owner to not have to install. Altho I could always just remove it and resolder 1 wire. Not a big deal either way .

Thats exactly how long I'm interested in modulating my brake light! At this point, I wouldn't mind purchasing another brake light modulator just to get the timing right. Where did you purchase your no-cut modulator? I tried searching for it ...with no luck. On a side note, I would still be interested in changing the original brake light modulator if anyone had an ideas; Quote:

It's my own design, a company makes the PC boards for me and I get the connectors from Eastern Beaver. Offshore competition makes it unprofitable to be a viable business so I just make small runs (25) for friends & a few forum members. My unit uses a relay to flash the lights instead of solid-state which gives full power to the lamp (only slightly noticeable though) and also breaks the tail light circuit to give the flash more contrast, especially with LED's.

Simple wiring schematic: Blue wire from bike----><----- Red wire from unit| Yellow wire from unit ----> Blue wire to bulb Use the quick tap to connect the black wire from unit to the black/yellow wire from the bike. Then just follow the instructions to set your mode. I pulled the bulb harness out and soldered the unit to that instead of attaching it to the bike's harness. I'm happy with the results and saved some good money. I will say that I soldered the points tho. I really dislike crimp connectors.

This is a mod I would be interested in doing. There have been quite a few people who have been adding the kits that they purchased along this thread. Is it still a consensus that the original nocut kit for $30 after shipping is the best bet? I don't mind doing a little splicing if need be

The wiring was also very simple, exactly how you described it. Even though all that was required was a little soldering, I decided to wire it in through the use of OEM-style connectors purchased from Eastern Beaver. I also installed some bullet connectors so I can plug in my Rear LED Strips I purchased from Oznium. Most importantly, I was very happy with the flasher modes! Out of 37 different modes, I found a few that I personally thought were perfect. I would say that for the price, this unit is definitely worth buying and installing. At this point in time, I actually don't know what to do with my No Cut Brake Lamp Modulator... I may try to sell it locally for $20. I'm very pleased, and I will soon have it completely wired up to my bike. |
