Question: I'll need to experiment with psi. But you guys who run DR2, what do you run? And for those of you who run PSR, what psi do you guys run? Do you guys think I need to run unorthodox psi just because I have two different brand (stickiness) tires? Last futzed with by cadd; May 13th, 2015 at 10:58 PM. |

A tire tread comprising an elongated tread strip of tire tread compound of high resistivity having a transverse width (TR) and, within the transverse width (TR) at least one longitudinally extending conducting strip of low resistivity tire compound with a volume resistivity less than 108 ohm-cm, the at least one conducting strip extending from the top to the bottom surface of a tread strip.

huh. I thought that legitimately was a load of bogus.
Then again, there are also US patents in existence for time machines, perpetual motion machines, and lets not forget the anti-gravity contraptions. |

Well, my rear tire has about 12k on it and just barely at a few of the wear bars. I think I may have 1k-2k of normal riding left. However, this weekend is the BBG attempt so I'm not so confident of them lasted the full 2k when 1500 of it is going to be solid 24hr riding on NV roads.
Replacing early and will save it to one day try the DRII and PS combo mentioned earlier. Very very very happy with this tire! Installed Oct '14, removed May '15, been through two heavy monsoon rain storms, been over numerous mountain passes, and survived three IBA certificate rides.

I had someone offer to sell me some DR2's for cheap but I told them I can't because I'd have to bring a second tire just to make the trip back home with my latest extra long weekend trips. Just this month I've logged in about 6,000 miles on the tires and they are getting flat but still holding strong. I have one more 2500 mile trip coming up in a month so I hope I have enough left in the rear to safely complete the trip.

Can't wait to put mine on the bike...
But I chose to put a Michelin Pilot Power up front and the Pilot Street Radial in the rear... Should I apprehend some kind of difference in handling switching from bias (Avon Roadrider AM26) to radials? |

Nite and day difference, you'll feel like your on rails with radial tires, bias ply follows all the cracks in the road where the radials do not.

gonna change tirtes soon
Stock IIRC's on 2012 Ninja 250 have about 8700 miles on them front is great rear center is flattening. Thinking about changing tires soon looking at Michelin Pilot Streets and Bridgestone BT 45's. I ride fairly aggressive and bend a corner or two. Anyone have tried the IIRC's and BT 45's or Michelins and can compare.
These bikes are light so 8,000-10,000 miles isn't uncommon on a rear. looking for good mileage and good handling can I get both???

For anyone wanting the Pilot Street, check availability from your supplier.
Got burned by my shop while waiting on my rear only to find out the day before I was to pick it up that the Pilot Streets are backordered and it *might* come in the next day. Thumbed through a few online places to find "out of stock" stickers on the tire. I need to kill of the Rosso II I'm now sporting.

Tracked my 300 yesterday at VIR
that track is addictive, the roller coaster is taken flat out (with the exception of one quick braking zone at the top) on a 300 and it's wild as hell. Knee to knee transitions everywhere, beautiful track anyway, on topic. I ran the pilot street radials there with great success. It was approx 90-95 degrees out so I started melting them but they gripped well I was comfortable dragging my knee and toe through corners. No issues reaching the edge of the tire and I didn't have it slip on me at all. These tires didn't let me down at all, my brakes on the other hand....

I'm too much of a noobie to notice any problems with DRII rear and PSR front. Grips fine on dry roads, wet roads and dirty roads. I'm going to be putting a PSR on the rear soon. Hopefully I can build up the courage to do a burnout first. When I was running DRII front and rear, I found I had to put more air in them than my IRCs in order to keep them from feeling... floppy/squidgy. I usually put ~30 PSI in front and ~34 PSI in rear. When I was using the IRCs I put ~28 PSI in front and ~32 PSI in rear.

I'll be switching to DRIIs soon then getting a PSR rear when the DRII rear wears and run that from then on. The rear on my PSR is low enough on life now to where it's not ideal for track, I'll put it back on for the winter though. I'm starting to really transition from street to track so the extra grip is something I can really benefit from Even at a good track pace I had no issues with grip. Sunday was an open track day so I went out multiple times for over an hour of riding at track pace and the tires held up well but the rear is getting really close to the wear bars for track use. I can get another 1-2k miles out of it on the street though. 200+ track miles in one day is hard on tires too

yes, I run the same pressures on my 250 and 600 (600 pressures depend heavily on tire choice though)

Yours sound fine. It's common to drop a few psi for the track on both ends, and even more in the rear. Running rear psi less than front psi on these bikes is pretty much only for track use, though. Comparatively terrible tire life/wear, but more grip at very high speeds / high heat.

Okay, so I had time to put some road time on my new Michelin...
As written above: I've installed a Michelin Pilot Power (ZR rated) up front and Michelin Pilot Street Radial in the back, both OEM size. I found the bike turn in more difficult than with its old Avon Roadrider. And It seemed I had to put more "pressure" on the handlebars to lean the bike. Even at low speed, the bike felt heavier. The suspension wasn't touched and the PSI were the same in both tire set up, which are 29 front and 34 back. To be sure of what I felt today, I rode the same roads I used for my daily commute. So I know it pretty well. Is it normal? Was it the softer compound in the front? The difference between a bias and a radial tire? Or was it all in my mind, since these are new tires? Thanks for your inputs, I was quite surprised today... |

I hadn't realized the Powers were available with a 110/70 front as well, but it sure looks like they are. If that's what you have on the front and they are at a reasonable PSI, I'm surprised that they seem more difficult to turn in/hold a line than worn RoadRiders.

You're absolutely right about that... But, since the bike seems design with a ride who weight about 130 lb, I figure out that one or two PSI more should even out my weight difference. And if I remember correctly, quite a few run at higher PSI...

Do different tires call for different psi?
IRC, DR2, Pilot Street Radials, Pilot Power, etc. I've been experimenting with pressure lately. I have a DR2 up front and a Street Radial in the rear. So far, I ""think"" I like F30/R34 the most. It's not too jarring over bumps and the feedback is pretty good. EDIT: On the other hand.....1 or 2 psi won't really matter. I have 3 gauges. All 3 gauges read a different PSI!!!! One is off by 4psi Only if there's a way to calibrate them. Sigh....

That said, I know that there are tires way grippier than the streets, with correspondingly limited tire life (The DRII's come to mind), so I don't disagree with the premise that more grip up front is easier and safer to ride with than more grip at the rear.

OK, I'm definitely doing something that's abusive as hell to my tires, my PSR rear looked worse than that at 7,500 miles (granted 500mi on track but it looked lower on tread before that)
I've run 32f/30r pressures since day one, could be a factor
