wow kkim.... I would have thought you banked 10,000 a year at least.
oh well, we are still blessed with your knowledge. My 09 was bought on 5/7/10. I'm currently just under 2,100. It took forever seems like to bank those first 500 break in miles riding a few miles a day around the neighborhood. She's been on the highway ever since. I try to commute M-F with a 50.2 round trip. I have 1140 miles so far after having the bike 7 weeks. I 'll never catch up to some of the 08+ riders 'cause they have a 2+ year advantage on me. Even if I rode to work every day, that's only 150 miles a week. But I ride to work occasionally, and usually take the 650R 'cause it has a Givi trunk.---This is a great thread.

scotty, nope. No problems. The cam chain started clicking pretty loud at 20K or so, and I solved that at 24K with thicker oil (20w-50-summer) after 3 valve checks. The brakes are getting a bit squishy, but I'm sure that's because the fluid is old. Soon I'll be upgrading to braided steel lines and then do a full brake rebuild to get all the old nasty gunk out... I'm also still on my original rear rotor (but it is .3mm over-used. I'll let it go to .5mm over and then replace it. That's what I did with the front, so I might as well do it with the rear. I hardly use the rear brake anyway... On my second set of sprockets, and my third chain. Hopefully this time around, I can maintain it better and get some more mileage out of it.
I have opened up the airbox, and it's jetted with 102 main jets, and that doesn't seem to have damaged anything. I've eliminated the kleen air system, so that's not being tested anymore.. :P I've also gone through a set of fork seals, but I think that's just cause I rode her a bit hard on a very rocky trail up in Wyoming for a hot second. She's starting to get a hiccup at idle, but I'm thinking that's spark plugs needing a gap. I'll be checking that, valves, a carb tear down, tune and sync and general eye-balling all around here in about a month. I'll also be returning her to full-stock as far as the intake/exhaust goes, so I can get some base-line data for power/curve and such before I get crazy with the exhaust and headers. I'll also be doing the brakes when I lift her skirt for the valves. Surprisingly, the wheel bearings are still good, but I'm thinking they'll fade fast towards 50K... Oh yea, and the clutch is just fine. So yea, not a whole lot to report. I know, an awful lot said for nothing really. I talk too much. The 250 is a solid machine, all around. I've taught about 6 people to ride on her, she's been down many times at low speed (Shogun frame sliders rock!), and I don't go particularly easy on her. I use the throttle when it's necessary, and have gotten quite comfortable with the throttle stop. Hope that helps.

Started the season with 28000km finished with 42000km.Other than regular oil/air filter changes and new plugs at beginning of each season, no problems. Changed front brake pads around 34000km, still haven't had to adjust valves. Starts and runs like a charm. Haven't used a drop of oil and I'm usually running it hard all day, as the guys I ride with all have 1000's. The only mods are double bubble windscreen, FMF slip-on pipe and needle with one shim.

Actually have had the bike for three seasons now, haven't had any problems other than normal wear and tear. Tires, brakes, chain and sprockets. Did my own dealer prep when I picked up bike from dealer and did the quick break-in method with lots of oil changes, switched to amsoil synthetic around 2000km. Checked valves around 24000km, all were around middle of spec range Shimmed needles after I installed the pipe, made warmup a little quicker and mid-range smooth. Other than the odd day where top-end seems slow, usually cold and wet, the bike runs great. The only thing that I'm going to change is to go back to Kawasaki OEM brake pads. When I changed the fronts out I went to SBS pads. They just don't feel right, and once in the rain I had to grab a handfull and there was nothing there. A problem I never had with stock pads, so will change them out before next season. Then ride the snot out of it for another year.

lol... riding the dirt bikes more than the street bike.
My street riding partner has been preoccupied and it's been awhile since I've jumped on the ninja. I suspect I have clogged pilots like you did and will need to clean out the carbs before the bike will be back running at 100%. |

Will be turning 24,000 miles on the odo on the way home today. Started riding the end of March last year with 2,042 miles on the odo. That's averaging out to about 1,100 miles a month, though I did over 2,300 miles in October.

Kurt, Cherry went in for the 600 miles valve adjust to the dealer, and since then hasn't been back to the shop. I've acquired feeler gauges, compression gauge, vacuum gauges, a 90-degree motion pro screw driver and i'm sure a few odds and ends here and there, but I've been able to do all the maintenance check with basic hand tools. Oh, a front and rear stand help out a lot as well!

In what manual? It's not in the owners manual or the service manual; both state 1st valve adjustment is during the 7500 mile service.
There is a 600 mile service recommended, but it does not include a valve adjustment.

Correct Kim, no required valve adjust until 7.5K.
However, when I bought my bike, I was really long in the tooth to follow the proper break-in procedures, so I asked the guys if there's a way we can speed it up. So we figured out a plan, and they asked me to come in at 600 miles to check the valves, promising they'd honor the warranty under this new plan. I love that shop! This was also the time I hovered over the mechanic, watching how one does the valves, so from then on I could do them myself.

Lol, my bike is worth: 338.21
Dweezel: I think the longest mileage ninjette documented to-date is: http://forums.ninja250.org/viewtopic...42aed6b#598811 And I would love to see a higher-mileage new-gen than mine, but as of now, I'm the highest mileage new-gen I know of (on this board, anyways), that's been documented...
