Yeah but this week I was too lazy to ride all week till today so it comes and goes. That 3am Commute with it reletless head wind will suck the life out of you which is probably why I opted for the Ninja all week. I F**King hate the road bike but I've only got one more week til I get my parts back to rebuild the mtb and I get back on the dirt.

Lol, joined. Rode my first century yesterday. Besides my calf being toast from cramping up and being a little sunburnt, I feel pretty darn good today

I've had to miss the past couple of weeks of riding due to photography obligations. This weekend is no different. At least it is for a photo workshop featuring a model I worked with previously. I won't be able to post those images on here without edits to cover up things. So...yeah.

I'm back in the saddle again, trying to up my mileage. Good thing is my class schedule is late. I start at 10:30 M/W/F and 10:00 on T/Th. As long as it's not cold out, I'll be biking in the mornings since that's been working pretty well. I want to hit AT LEAST 1000 miles this season, I'm at 870 or something this year.

Hoping really to hit 1500 before it gets cold, then get back to running speed workouts at the indoor track and swimming after classes.

I can't wait for my little girl to get a bit older. This winter I may be strapping her into the trailer and towing her behind me for some small rides.

Chone....I need to figure out how many miles I've done this year so far. I'm sure it is sub 500, but would still be nice to keep track of.

Strava. Make it happen.

I'm loving going to bed and legitimately being tired again. I missed this feeling most of winter and only got a taste of it while being so busy earlier in the summer. It's addicting!

I think @alex.s is starting to get hooked on biking as well. He's been doing some good rides lately.

Just got myself a new blinky light since my last one was dead. Got a Serfas Thunderbolt light. HOLY **** it's bright!

I know these crazy people.
My wife just rode from Paris to Brest and back. 1200km or 746 miles in 83 hours non stop on her bicycle. And she spent six hours helping a friend with a broken wheel.

What are everyone's feelings re: Strava vs MapMyRide?

I just started riding in the past few weeks with my dad so he has someone to ride with (when my mom doesn't feel like getting up at 6AM with him every weekend to go ride) and I've used both just once now. I don't see much difference between the two just yet, but there definitely seems to be a preference for the former. Are there any particular reasons why?

strava is more integrated with more 3rd party services. and it seems like you can get a lot more data out of it. mapmyride seems like its trying to be strava... but sorta failing.

I have been using "map my fitness" (ride) for 7 years starting on "may my run". Just joined Strava

I had to pick what sport with Strava when I joined and that is it. Map my fitness I pick what I am doing at the start of my workout and it adjusts the calorie burn accordingly.

@alex.s what other parties?

F*** yeah! Why couldn't you have had one of those in ApriL!?!?!? I've always wanted to ride one and we've looked seriously into those for design of our HPVC and we've just never done it because of the required learning curve!!!

RE: strava vs Mapmyride.

strava hands down. Even if you don't use the zwift, strava has some basic data measuring for checking out where you were doing well and where you were deficient. It's not all perfectly accurate, but it's good enough for some basic comparison to see your growth trends. Also way more users and simple integration of your Garmin data.

EDIT: Al, you can change what activity type you're doing at the beginning of each activity recording session, no biggie. When I set up my account, I chose cyclist because, while I do run, I cycle more than run. The convenient part of that is when I used the app for recording my rides, its default was cycling, but that could be changed to running very easily. Now that I have a Garmin, it's not such a big issue.

Glad you guys joined, Spooph and Al! I invited Jono a while back, but I don't think he's accepted that invitation to the cool kids club

its within 60% i'd say. but without expensive equipment you aren't really going to get better than strava. any wind at all and things get thrown pretty far off. especially on rolling hills where momentum has a big role. honestly i'm not too sure strava has any concept of frontal cfd or mass body force modelling... pretty sure they are purely power calcs which is why sometimes it shows ridiculously high numbers if you drop down a slope and then hit a rise

I think Chone was mostly referring to the comparison page for single segments. You can compare your current performance against your PR or KOM time in a simulated second by second race. On a complex trail I normally see myself catch or pull away from the current leaders on the descents and twisty parts and lose time on the climbs. It's cool to motivate me to stay smooth on the DHs then try and push harder on the climbs to improve my weakness. There's a ton of possibilities.

Yepp yepp. and basics for your whole ride like averages, attempted elevation gain numbers, times on segments, where you slowed down because you didn't eat enough, where you hauled ass because that pretty girl was on a bike and you wanted to catch up to her to check out her calves....

but pedal steer! Your pedaling input will give some amount of turning input to the front wheel.

Whenever I've seen on online, they always seem to wriggle down the road Seems like it would be difficult to learn to counter the pedal steer with hand steer just right to get rid of the wriggling effect.

All the more reason to practice your perfectly smooth pedal stroke I guess. If you ever get a chance to ride a softride(tri bike with no chain stays or seat post) then you'll notice if you pedal like a hammer then the boom style seat last will have to bouncing all over the place.
