Sorry to you all, and I guess I will look into this more for myself with proper equipment.
Could I get some good suggestions on what is the most accurate devies avalible to read a 0-60 mph pull from a dead stop that would be avalible on-line or at local motorcycle shop(s).
Thank's for any suggestions.

Jaso,

Instead of timing it, just record it and look at the time afterwards. Look at this video and you will see it is not even close to 5 seconds. At the 4 second mark he is roughly 40 mph. Now you understand why others were bashing on you for your 3.5 second remark. I'm not gonna beat a dead horse so just watch the video and you will understand.

Great video. That has to be the fastest 250 I've ever seen.

He claims 52.8 hp. If that's true, this could be a contender!

They have a highly exorbitant tax on anything larger than a 250cc in Indonesia, or so I'm told. So that's why you see a lot of crazy modified Ninja 250s in Indonesia.

Even if they spent $10k in mods to it, it would be priceless to see the guy's face after he has been beaten.

im pretty sure it wouldnt be priceless. if you spent 10k on modding a 250 just to surprise someone with a sleeper, i believe the price for seeing their face would be around 10k......

hey

I just tried to sift through most of the posts...and yes Dablue I did smack the beehive. And btw whassup man!

Anywhoo, again DaBlue pretty much summed up my original thoughts in a more eloquent manner. And RacerX pretty much added good insight.

Again you cannot base reality on what others cannot do or for that matter not even try. There is a guy named Shiphteey that has a 250r that he drags along with a zx12 and the 250r does 12.9's all day with bolt on mods(sprockets, jets, exhaust, nos) no internals. He is pretty popular on other forums and has timeslips, videos and others vouch etc. He is probably one of many that never even hit the forums. You can search the name and if you are too lazy I attempted to place links in the thread. I hope he may chime in to give some insight. If he is doing 12.9's then that translates to him not getting totally owned like some swear. My point is a ninja modded with bolt ons will not get totally owned vs a stock 600 going from light to light. Yes driver skill factors in the equation but in reality you are not putting peak hp or torque in a short light to light race to 45-60mph.

http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewth...D=58945&FID=13

http://forums.ninja250.org/viewtopic...2e75eaa0a8b244

yes if you had a modded 636 with power commanders and exhaust, etc of course the lil ninja would be no match. But not every 600 is a supersport, and not every rider knows how to launch etc. In a street race, a half a sec matters and that could translate to a bike length or more.

Again the video posted does not prove anything but the 600 is fast. The ninja didn't even try to race after dude stalled out evidenced by him looking back. I have seen people talk the same ish on other forums about similar topics back in my fast in the furious days. I've had a 12sec daily driver Mitsubishi Mirage that people swear could not exist. I have boys right now that can put down high 9's and beast on motorcycles in 96 civics, Mitsubishi Eclipses and drive up to the race. And also have corvette guys swear that these things are not possible, and get mad that they got owned by a car with 13inch wheels. I'm from VA and up at Dinwitty or up Englishtown NJ drags it is very competitive so these sights are not uncommon. On the streets leading up to the track in Surry there is a guy in a Banshee(400cc 4wheeler) that owned a Busa.

Also if more people would get out there and try things instead of looking for "cool"/douchey pics to flame other posters maybe somebody could at least prove me wrong/right or at least try hard enough to see what the bike is made of.
Sorry for the rant but you get the point...

true...I'm not denying that...lol...I'm just trying to say that for the "average rider" the performance envelope is gonna be alright. I have some squid friends that are literally scared to death of their bikes and will tout this I have a 600 or 1000 or whatever and because they aren't confident on the bike they do not explore the capabilities of the bike. I'm sure no 250 would be a match for an experienced racer like yourself.

But what I didn't know is how many fellow 250 would throw in the towel so soon.lol It's like 600 d*ck ridin. Also not all 600's are fast, the Ducati that I had only had like 35-40hp and 1200 cruisers are not fast in general. My Ducati would get smoked by my 250.

are you kidding me.

do not compare riding skill with engine performance.

you are saying a 250 is faster because you might know how not to loop it when taking off (yes you can loop a 250) and you can beat someone who has no idea how to ride a motorcycle up to 35mph. its fine for you to pet your own ego, but dont try and convince someone a bike with 30hp is anywhere close to as fast as a bike with double, triple, or even quadruple the HP, and then get butthurt when people disagree with you and point out your obvious logic faults.

show some humility.

there is no way a 250 accelerates that fast and hits that top speed.... well at least not with my fat ass on it, i top out around 85 mph, after a long time.

its like the old saying goes "There ain't no replacement, for Displacement". it's a ninja 250, there's no getting around it, i know what its capable of and i'm happy with it. i've only had it for aboot 6 months, but using it as a daily commuter for the short time i've had it makes me wanna keep it even more and not "upgrade". It's one thing to slap a turbo on her, but nos?? if i really wanted to beat a 600 that bad i'll just jump into my 3800 cc car and run 'em over.

i don't where this thread is going, so here's a rabbit with a pancake on its head.

Because they know what the **** they are talking about. dude you are so wrong and are still arguing like you are right. Like there is the magical universe of 250 riders who are "in the know" and we are not a part of it. Sure a pos rider on a 600 would loose but make no mistake, it was the rider that lost not the bike.

ummm

So obviously you are either ignoring the meat and potatoes are arguing for sake of arguing. The post links are up. So are you saying that RacerX's times or Shipheely time slips are fake?

There is someone doing 12.9/s on a Ninja 250 that is fact. YOU are not that person but it is being done. There are Ninja 250s with mods that are fast as or close to bigger bikes.

And wtf are you talking about? NOS is much simpler to install then a turbo. Coming from someone who installs NOS and TURBOS on cars for a living not what I heard or was told. But seriously I hate to throw the "I know more about this ish" into the thread, but I am being quite humble because you have no clue what my background is and how invested I am into auto's and bikes.

I'm not getting upset or making any personal attacks so that really doesn't help get your point across so please be respectful. And at the end of the day who cares if you "believe" or not.

Why does this thread sound more and more like it belongs on gixxer.com? We can all take it down a notch without losing the entertainment value, right?

To the OP, I think you are being reasonably polite and aren't attacking folks here for the sake of it. But to have one of your first posts on a 250 enthusiast site drastically overstating the capabilities of a bike that we're all very familiar with, the flak isn't unexpected. Even that 12.9 quarter you've linked to won't be anywhere close to 3.5 seconds to 60 mph, no matter how fast it "feels" to you.

I'll throw in some real data. Pulled up a bunch of my logging software.

GPX-Pro Laptimer, 2009 EX250 with various race mods - no NOS, nothing special, jets, airbox, weight reduction, and sprockets. Motorsport Ranch Cresson, CMRA Race.

The GPX logs speed (real GPS speed, not speedo indicated on a cable speedometer), time, distance (and a bunch of other stuff that we don't care about in this thread).

From a flagged start, it took 7.95 seconds to reach 60.1 mph over a distance of 456 feet (the same distance on my 600RR, reached 94.2 mph in 4.5 seconds).

Nice.

Even IF a 250 can manage a 12.9 1/4 mile, a stock zx-6r runs (according to motorcycle-usa.com) a 10.77 1/4 mile. That is in no way, shape or form "almost as fast" as a ss.

Maybe its a matter of perspective you're missing of just how much of a difference over 2 seconds really is. Take a 2.0 civic Si. its a semi quick stock car, 197hp, under 3000lbs and runs the 1/4 in ~14.9. Then take a new 5.0 Mustang GT. Packs 412 hp, over 3600lbs and runs a 1/4 mile in ~12.8.

Theres a little over a 2 sec difference there as well. And if you watched those 2 cars run down the road side by side from a stop the stang would just flat out walk away.
