Got my new AlpineStars Barcelona jacket yesterday from Motorcycle Superstore. I can't believe I only paid $141 for this $300-$400 jacket at closeout. Increadible deal on a really nice jacket. It has all the CE-approved armor (the back is just a foam pad, but it will hold a decent aftermarket pad too) and a removable Thinsulate liner. Quality A*s stitching throughout and the leather is thick enough to protect, but soft enough to be comfortable right out of the box. I have a feeling this is going to be my "go to" jacket at least until things warm up around here and I switch to my TourMaster Intake mesh.

How come the chicks get all the cool pants, and we either look like a Rossi wannabe, a goldwing geezer, or like we're going to clean the barn? I want me some groovy pants. Anyway, here's my stuff:
Arai Profile 'Sinister' Helmet, very comfortable, and I have a huge melon, so it was surprising to find one that fit so well. Joe Rocket Phoenix Jacket. Good fit, great for hot weather, not so much for cooler temps. Liner is ok for rain, but feels alot like a hefty bag. Shift Racing 'Torque' pants. Kevlar reinforced knees and butt. Fit is long, but the quality is really nice. These are very thick, and get hot in the summer, but I imagine better than leathers. Icon Chukka Boots. See review on this site. Can't say enough good about them. Not cold weather boots however. Power Trip Grand National Gloves. They look good, feel good, but I just can't get over the nagging feeling that these aren't going to take a spill real well. And for nastier weather, I have the Joe Rocket Alter Egos. Good for function, but look goofy IMO. |

I've got:
Helmet: Shoei RF-1000 (L with smaller 33 mm cheek pads to deal with my massive cranium) Jacket: A* Stage Perf Leather Gloves: A* SPS Boots: A* Ridge Waterproof boots Pants: I usually just wear jeans to work (guilty as charged, but my commute has a speed limit of 25 so I can justify it for now)... I've got a pair of Icon Victory jeans for leisure rides, and I'm planning on adding a pair of knee/shin pads. The big worry is my total lack of hip protection, though... I've got to get that problem solved. |

I just picked this up over the weekend for the hot weather (which we had the day I bought it).
I am going to get the Tourmaster Ladies Denim pants to go with this. This will be for around town on hot days. On the freeways it will be nothing but the leathers.

Have you considered picking up a pair of Bohn under armor or even some of the off road brands like Fox have some underwear type armor for the hips which aren't that expensive. |

My big problem with the Bohn stuff is trying to find it in a local store. My thighs are apparently larger than normal for my waist size, so I have a ton of trouble finding pants that fit well - so I definitely want to try that stuff on until I find a brand I know fits me properly. I absolutely despise having to return items I bought online, so I avoid it whenever possible (which is why I haven't ordered on newenough yet, though I'll probably break down and do it now that we're actually hitting some riding weather). I'm actually toying with the idea of hacking up my A* foam back protector (once I replace it) and sewing the pieces into my Victorys a la football pads. It'd look weird to have a padded tailbone and hips, but then I'm better protected and I bet it'd make long rides more comfortable! |

i'd be more worried about protecting myself from skin graphs on my hips and thighs than padding.

OK I'm finally done with my Dainese Hellracer leather gauntlet gloves.
They are slowly falling apart and have become uncomfortable too. Don't want to deal with them anymore so time to replace them. Could anyone recommend me some quality (actual quality..not just a name) leather gloves? I'd prefer something that's not too pricey but it doesn't have to be the most affordable of the bunch either. And it absolutely has to be a full length 'gauntlet' style glove. Figured I'd post here instead of starting a whole other topic. Would appreciate any recommendations you may have. |

Well I ended up finding myself a new pair of gloves today.
Tried a bunch on while checking in on the progress of a bike I was looking at. Icon Merc glove with the full gauntlet. What a great glove, real good price too. Found it to be extremely comfortable and looks way more sturdy then my Dainese Hellracers. Once again the new dealership in town managed to get me a price lower then online before factoring in shipping. I love this new dealer, don't think I'll ever buy gear anywhere else again. Redline Motorsports, for if you just happen to be in Calgary. |

That padding helps cut down on the skin grafts. It lets the material flex and move without wrinkling. Not sure about that? Take some of your favorite material, back it with a stick, (or as was demonstrated to me) or beef bone, then push it into your favorite grinding stone at a medium pressure. See how fast it wears through? Now do the same, but add a piece of armor between the stick/bone and do the same at the same pressure. It's the difference between "Needs Repair" and "Throw it Away"

dyeclan - please check the materials tag on your Shift Torque jeans... there's been reports that the lined material in Shift jeans is actually a mixture that only contains 5% kevlar. Other forum users have said the jeans blow on impact and provides almost no resistance. Just tryin' to look out for ya so you don't develop a false sense of security - something to check.
SpyderGirl - so is that Alpinestars armor-thing a substitute for a riding jacket? The mesh material won't fall apart in a crash (thereby rendering the armor useless since it won't stay in place)? if so, that looks awesome and i may pick one up as well |
